November: A time to give thanks-

Can you believe it's already November 1st? We have shared 62 days of school with your children, and we are so thankful for them. This past month was FULL of FUN @ South. We celebrated Fire Safety Month by having the local firetruck, two firemen, and Sparky come to South to speak to our Pre-K through 2nd graders about what to do in case of a fire. One of our firemen dressed up in all the gear and showed the kids how they do not need to be afraid of him if he ever had to come to their house. Our Kindergarten, 4th, and 5th grade classes went on field trips. Our after-school tutoring, "Game Changers Academy" started Oct. 17th. We dressed up for Red Ribbon Week each day and learned about how to stay drug free. We enjoyed a FALL FUN Day in each grade level and participated in lots of STEM activities. Our Fall Trunk or Treat night was AMAZING! We did not let the rain ruin our great time. Thanks for being flexible and waiting in line while we transformed our hallways into themed areas for your children. The teachers did an outstanding job decorating their areas for your children to trick or treat. We had a costume-book character contest and gave prizes to one child per grade level. Their costumes were so cute. We also enjoyed a magic show in the gym. This past month of October was so busy and exciting. I think the teachers enjoyed the festivities as much as the kids did.

This month we are looking forward to having a speaker come to South to honor our Veterans. If you have a veteran in your family, we would like to extend an invitation to them to come to South Thursday, Nov. 10th. We will meet in the gym for two presentations. Pre-K through 2nd grades will go to the gym to hear the speaker from 9:00-9:25 and 3rd-6th grades will participate from 9:30-10:00. After each session, the veterans that attend are invited to go to the media center to enjoy a small reception with the student that invited them. We look forward to seeing you. Remember, you MUST show your personal ID and be scanned at the front office before entering the building. This is for our school's safety. Come a little early because this takes a while, especially if we have LOTS of visitors.

Please let your child's homeroom teacher know if your child has a veteran that will be attending.
