Barton Families
Thank you for your feedback!
We are continuing to follow our 2019-2020 school year calendar. Therefore, Thursday, May 21st is an early release and there is no school for students on Friday, May 22nd (for conferences and professional development). Monday, May 25th, schools are closed for Memorial Day.
We know many of you are regularly in contact with your child's teacher due to this remote learning experience. Therefore, conferences are available by request. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you would like to set up a time to discuss your child's progress or call and leave a message at school (802)525-3636.
Again, we greatly appreciate everything that you are doing to stay connected and support your child's remote learning experience. We want to extend a sincere thank you!

Physical Education with Mr. Jacobs
Physical Education Expectations
During remote learning from home valuing health and fitness is my number one priority. In order to do that I expect that all students are finding ways to be active for at least 30 minutes 3 times a week. I have supplied every student with a physical activity log on google classroom or class dojo. I also welcome emails from students letting me know how they are staying active and valuing their health and fitness. Any additional activities or assignments will be posted on Mondays for students to work on throughout the week. If there is not an assignment added to classroom or dojo just make sure you are staying active. If you have any questions feel free to email me at djacobs@ocsu.org
Thanks

Art with Miss Corkins
Art Expectations
Grades K-3
I will be posting a guided drawing or directed project every Tuesday. These videos will help your child continue to grow their fine and gross motor skills. I would like to see a picture of what they have done. Pictures or videos can be emailed to me at ecorkins@ocsu.org or pictures can be sent on Classdojo as well.
Grades 4-8
I will be posting a video with an art activity every Tuesday. In the post, I will include a form so that they can reflect on what they created and what they learned. I will also have a google meet every week so that students have a chance to create and talk with others to simulate an art class experience. Google meets for 6-8 are Tuesdays at 2:30 and 4-5 are on Wednesdays at 2:00. These meets are an opportunity for students who would like to join. Students can pop in to say hello or they can stay on and create with myself and classmates.
Creating helps to reduce stress and anxiety and deal with other emotions. It also helps to make connections in the brain and can even help you focus. I encourage everyone (you too, parents) to create something in some way at least once a week.
If you have any questions, suggestions or other needs, please feel free to email me. ecorkins@ocsu.org
Music Education, Band and Chorus with Miss Larose
Music Expectations
K-4 students have been given a learning menu on Class Dojo with options of activities to be done. Ideally, students should complete one activity each week and email me (clarose@ocsu.org) recordings, photos, or videos of work. I will continue to post videos to Class Dojo as optional activities for students to do in addition to the learning menu activities. All music activities are meant to be a creative outlet or brain break for students from computer time or academic learning.
5-8 students have been given a list of options for a “Personal Musicianship Project” on Google Classroom. These project options center around standards of creating, performing, and responding. These projects are meant to be independent and fun explorations of their interests in music. Due to the depth of these projects, I expect this to be long term (until the end of the school year) and for students to work on them for about a half hour total each week, communicating questions with me throughout the process and eventually submitting a complete project that they are proud of. The hope is that students will find ways to connect with music and us it as a creative outlet during these difficult times.
Band & chorus students have been invited to join the online platform “SmartMusic”. Chorus students have been assigned an optional song to learn independently and this software allows students to practice and submit recordings of themselves to me for feedback. I have been assigning optional solo pieces for band students to work on through SmartMusic, as well as holding voluntary weekly video lessons where we work exercises from the method book and continue our work on concert piece, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” I have created rehearsal recordings for students to play along with when they practice at home, and hope to eventually have students submit recordings of themselves playing this tune (via email: clarose@ocsu.org) in order to create a virtual band performance.
Library with Mrs. Roberts
Library Expectations:
The district librarians have identified the following as essential targets for the remainder of the school year;
*Support teachers and students
*Encourage and support the love of reading and life-long learning
*Connect with our community through books
I am available to help families find virtual or physical reading material. I can also assist with research or finding educational material for projects/assignments. The district librarians are offering two (PK-4th and 4th-8th) virtual book clubs. We are also hosting Open Library Hour on Fridays at 11:00 am. Information for both events have been shared via all classroom platforms. On a weekly basis, I have been posting enrichment activities and literacy opportunities (Library Choice Board, Poetry Calendar, CLiF Author Storytimes, etc.) in all classroom platforms for grades K-5. The LRUEMSD Unified Arts teachers have created a new website to provide a central location for families and students to access resources for all specialty areas. I hope families find these opportunities and resources helpful to encourage students to read, create, engage, be active and have fun. Please email me, mroberts@ocsu.org, with any questions or interest in participating in the book clubs or open hour events.
