- This week’s theme is GROWTH. Let’s celebrate how much we’ve grown and learned more than halfway through our school year!
February is American Heart Health Month!
For 12 years, Silver Strand Elementary has supported the American Heart Association through the Jump Rope for Heart program. This year's program, Kids' Heart Challenge, is focused on heart-healthy habits, physical activity, and of course, jumping rope to save lives. This Kids' Heart Challenge supports our health and physical education program with positive health messages and increased levels of physical activity. Students are currently learning jump rope skills in their PE classes. We will use these skills in a culminating Jump Rope for Heart event on Friday February 22nd during PE class.
In addition to supporting our PE program, the American Heart Association raises money for heart research that is used to save lives. The donation potion of the program is entirely optional. All students will benefit from the program regardless of their donation status. If you choose to donate to the American Heart Association please refer to the envelope sent home Monday. You may also visit: http://american.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge/ for more information or to make an online donation. There is also a free Kids' Heart Challenge app for phones/tablets that can assist with raising donations, promoting health challenges for students, and access to games. Donation envelopes may be dropped off in the front office. The final day to accept donations is Friday, February 22nd.
Please direct questions regarding this program to Mr. Bachman in our Physical Education department: eric.bachman@coronadousd.net. Thank you to Mr. Bachman and the American Heart Association for bringing this program to our students!
Silver Strand Safety and Security Support from Karen Pierro
Happy February! In a continued effort to keep all of our Silver Strand community safe, here are a few safety tidbits for our families:
- Helmets are required for all bike and scooter riders. These riders also need to walk their bike or scooters across any crosswalks.
- Cell phones: please refrain from texting while in the drop-off area, whether driving or walking.
- Staff parking spots have been designated and marked in the main lot. Please use the unmarked spots in the rear of the lot if you are a parent visitor coming on campus.
And lastly, PLEASE continue to use caution and patience with rainy day pick-up.
Thanks & stay SAFE!
