The Tohickon Golden Eagle
April 2021
Dear Tohickon Families,
The fourth and final marking period of the school year will begin on April 12. As we move into the final phase of the school year, we are diligently planning for a number of events including, but not limited to state testing, end of year award ceremonies and closing activities for our Freshman.
The PSSA tests will be given to both our five day in-person and virtual students. The PSSA testing will take place on April 21, April 28 and May 5, all on Wednesdays. The virtual students will be testing in our cafeteria (8th Grade) and auxiliary gymnasium (7th Grade), while our five day in-person students will be testing in their classrooms. As April 21 approaches, more reminders and information will be sent to parents and families. During full exam days, students will have a break for snack and/or lunch. The Keystone Exams will take place at the end of May and/or the beginning of June. We will provide details on the Keystone Exams at the beginning of May.
We are currently in the process of deciding on how and when we can conduct end of year award presentations for our students. It is extremely important to us to be able to honor and recognize our students in some way, especially our Freshman, as they will all be moving on to the high schools. Due to restrictions within our Health and Safety Plan, we will not be able to conduct indoor ceremonies based on our current numbers. We are, however, looking at possibilities that involve outdoor presentations. As we move further into the month of April, we expect to finalize our plans regarding these events. Once these determinations have been made, we will be sure to provide our families with all the details.
Ninth grade is a special year in the Central Bucks School District, as it marks the end of our students’ middle school years and the beginning of their high school years. It has always been a tradition at Tohickon to mark this special occasion with celebratory activities. Last year, we were very limited with available options. This year, however, we are finalizing plans that will include a Freshman Day at Camp America and a Freshman evening event. While we are still putting together the details for the Freshman evening event, we do expect it to include a dance component, along with other types of activities. Due to restrictions on social gatherings and distancing, we will need to utilize multiple large space areas within the building and possibly areas outside of the building. As we approach the month of May, we expect to provide you with more detailed information as it relates to these items.
In closing, I wish everyone a safe and healthy month! As always, if you have any questions or need clarification on any items, please reach out to the main office at 267-893-3300 or the guidance office at 267-893-3310.
Sincerely,
Kevin Marton
Tohickon Principal

TOHICKON STUDENT COUNCIL RAISES $2000 FOR CB ALUM
As part of Tohickon’s commitment to serving the Central Bucks community, Tohickon’s Student Council planned and carried out a school-wide fundraiser to raise money for the Jason Smith Medical Trust. Jason is a Central Bucks alum who currently resides in Texas with his wife and two daughters. In 2014, thirty-five year old Jay Smith was diagnosed with ALS. ALS is a degenerative disease which robs you of your ability to move and eventually breathe. Jay’s only mobility is his eyes and he is on a tracheotomy and ventilator. Jay’s OUT OF POCKET medical expenses are currently $4,000 a week.
To support Jason and his family, Tohickon’s Student Council sold raffle tickets for a Candy Basket. Each ticket was $0.50 and could be purchased during our daily advisory periods or at the end of the day on the bus platform. This fundraiser began Monday, March 8th and concluded Friday March 19th. By the end of the fundraiser, $2,000.00 was raised to support Jason’s family and his fight against ALS. Freshman Jake Maggio (as pictured) was the lucky winner of the raffle basket, while 10 other students won smaller consolation prizes.
CB EAST MARCHING BAND IS CURRENTLY RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS FOR THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR
East Marching Band is currently recruiting new members for the 2021-2022 academic year. The band, under the direction of Mr. Jason Morehouse, performs throughout the fall at home and away football games, as well as, 4 local band competitions. Students will have the opportunity to participate in two weeks of band camp prior to the start of the school year where they are taught the choreography and music for the band’s halftime and competition show. The band includes woodwinds, brass, drum line, percussion, and color guard, and performs both at half time and during games in the stands. In past years the marching band has had the opportunity to travel to several exciting destinations including Disney World, Nashville, Washington DC, and Boston. While things are certainly different this year than past years, Mr. Morehouse is optimistic and exploring possible options as things improve. Despite many restrictions this past fall, the marching band was able to safely attend a modified camp, prepare a show, and perform stand tunes at home games. Students who participate in marching band often form lifelong friendships and find the experience allows for more opportunities to excel in their future endeavors. Registration is available to rising ninth grade music students and is open until June 4th. Please contact jmorehouse@cbsd.org if you are interested or have any questions.
