2nd Grade News
Ms. Parker's 2nd Grade ~ February 2016
Homework Checklist
Beginning in January, the students have been writing down their homework assignments and upcoming tests. This is to prepare them for 3rd grade. Third graders write their assignments in an agenda book. This helps the students take more responsibility in their learning and also teaches organization skills.
Mardi Gras Theme Day
Tuesday, February 9th is Mardi Gras. Students may wear jeans with a shirt in Mardi Gras colors (purple, green, gold, yellow). Students may bring in a shoebox float for the parade and we will have dancing and donuts in the gym after the parade.
Valentine Exchange
We will have a Valentine Exchange on Friday, February 12th. Students may bring a decorated box for their valentines along with valentines for each student. There are 19 children in the class. Mrs. Herman sent out an email for treat signups. Treats need to be sent in with your child on Friday morning. As a reminder, we are entering into the Lenten season which is a time of prayer and reflection; therefore, this is not a class party.
It's Getting Cold Outside!!!
With the fall, chilly air among us, please make sure that your child has a jacket or coat to wear at recess. As long as the temperature and wind chill is above freezing and no precipitation coming down, we will have outdoor recess. It's always a good idea for them to have a hat and a pair of gloves in their backpacks.
February "Book-It!" Reading Logs
February "Book-It" sheets were sent home last week!! Students need to read 6 books (3 chapters in a chapter book = 1 book) by the end of February to get a FREE personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut! Please encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes each evening.
Mass Offering
Just a reminder that if your child would like to bring money to put in the collection basket at Mass, they may bring it on Mondays or Tuesdays before Mass. I have collection envelopes in the classroom for them to use. Students may also write a special prayer intention and put in the collection basket.
February Mass collections will be given to Project Night Night.
Ice Cream at Lunch
Ice cream may be purchased on Wednesdays and Fridays for 2nd grade students.
FYI...Change in Snack!!
Please remember to pack a snack for your child. We are always grateful for snacks given to the class for when one doesn't have a snack. If you would like to contribute to the snack supply, please only send in snacks that are individually packed. Thanks! :)
