Keeping you informed

Northland Career Center (NCC) has had a digital presence for the past several years with an attractive, user friendly website. In the past few years, NCC has added a presence on Facebook and Twitter. NCC sends out a monthly newsletter to its key stakeholders including: Parents, Advisory Boards, Post-Secondary Partners, & Sending School Partners. Newsletters are sent on the first Tuesday of each month during the school year.

Diesel Technology Program Acquires Retired City Bus

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority & RideKC retired bus S132 with our Diesel Technology program. The bus will be used as a valuable training tool.

Heating/Cooling & Climate Control Student First to Earn All Character Trait Sets

Congrats to Heating/Cooling & Climate Control student Nathan Stone for being the first NCC student to earn all three sets of NCC R.O.C.K.S. character trait cards for following and demonstrating the essential employability skills & character traits framework. Special thanks to our NCC Rock Star Partner the Platte City & Barry Road Goodyear for the giftcard contributions.

Programs Receive On-the-Job Safety Training

Thank you to Jon Dickson, Safety, Health & Environmental Service Manager at the Builders' Association Kansas City Chapter, for leading many of our programs through on-the-job safety training Sept 7.

Andrew Davidson Memorial Car Show & Benefit

Linda and Steve Davidson worked hard to create a successful car show in Andrew's memory at NCC Sept. 29. More than 25 cars were at the show and more than $1000 was raised! The funds will go to support scholarships for students in Heating/Cooling & Climate Control. We thank them for their continued support of NCC.

Program Spotlight: Industrial Welding

Industrial Welding Scholarship Opportunities

AWS Welder Training Scholarships ($1,000) - Due November 30 - for students pursuing two-year welder training through trade school, community college or other facility providing welder training programs.

AWS National Scholarships ($2,500 minimum) - Due February 15 - AWS offers many different welding scholarships for students pursuing a specific degree at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university. A list of the scholarships can be found on

AWS Kansas City Section Scholarships (Varies depending on scholarship) - Due March or May depending on scholarship - Provided to students planning to attend academic institutions located within the Kansas City AWS Section and who reside in those counties. See for counties included.

Miller Electric International WorldSkills Competition Scholarship (winner receives $10,000 per year; runner up receives $1,000 to be used within two years) - Due February 15 - Available to those students who have competed in at the National SkillsUSA competition. They must also advance to the AWS Weld Trials competition at the AWS International Welding and Fabrication Exposition and Convention, which is held on a bi-annual basis.

Program Spotlight: Production Technologies

Production Technologies Scholarship Offerings

Electricity Club of STC Scholarship ($300) - Due March - Sponsored by the State Technical College of Missouri Electricity Club, one $300 scholarship is awarded annually to a first‐year student pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Degree at State Technical College of Missouri in Industrial Electricity. In addition to fulfilling scholarship criteria, consideration is based on availability of funds.

NTMA Leo Holder Memorial Machining Scholarship (At least $500) - Due July (Fall semester) and December (Spring Semester) - Campus of Attendance: Business & Technology Residency: Any Area of Study: Manufacturing or related field Academic Performance: Any Enrollment Status: At least 12 credit hours Financial Need Required: No Other: Must be at least 18 years old at time of class start. Must also be a current high school senior or graduate. Number of Awards: Up to 3 Renewal: Reapply each year. Requires written recommendation from an instructor, school counselor or an employer; resume describing interests, classes, and any work-related activities voluntary or paid; and 500-word or less essay stating career goals and why you should receive this. Also requires an NTMA Ivan and Holder Scholarship application.

Staff Feature: Sarah Ripoll

Mrs. Ripoll started at NCC this summer and has quickly become a valuable asset to the team. She grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri, but has lived in many states following graduation from high school.

Prior to NCC, she worked in a variety of positions including a licensed funeral director, a human resources manager and many administrative assistant positions. She worked in three other school school districts prior to arriving at Platte County R-3.

NCC's Adult and Community Education Opportunities

NCC Offers Adult and Community Education Classes at Northland Career Center and other sites in the area. Whether you are interested in a career in welding or your child is interested in attending babysitter training and youth CPR, there are classes for a wide range of interests.
