It's October Greyhounds!

Dear LCUSD 9 Community,
In just the few short months since I have been serving for the community of Lebanon, we have come together and accomplished plans for our finances moving forward, set goals of completion for building projects, created student achievement plans for both our process (PLCs) and work for our students.
When I say, this district has it going on...I truly mean it! I have never been more proud to be a Greyhound and truly look forward to the fulfillment of many more future endeavors!
Respectfully,
Dr. Ganey
Blue Ribbon Recognition
LCUSD 9 is proud to announce the distinct honor that Lebanon Elementary School is receiving this school year! The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms and validates the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in striving for β and attaining β exemplary achievement. National Blue Ribbon Schools represent the full diversity of American schools and serve students of every background.
In order to be eligible for nomination, a school must meet several criteria based on the performance of its students on state assessments in reading (or English language arts) and mathematics or a composite of performance on these assessments with other measures of student performance (e.g., student growth on state assessments, performance on state assessments in other subjects, graduation rates, or other indicators in the stateβs accountability system).
This distinct recognition does not expire and will remain the legacy of Lebanon Elementary School. We are so very proud of the hard work, diligence, and dedication of our educators!
Chamber of Commerce Bowl and MORE!
My family and I truly enjoyed going out to Hank's Bowl in Trenton on Saturday, September 23rd to bowl and support our City of Lebanon Chamber of Commerce. The event was organized and created to support a fun event for everyone attending. With true transparency, I wish I could share that my bowling score was off the charts, but what my score didn't hold my spirit did. My family and I are truly proud to be supporting such a wonderful community, and we enjoyed getting to know everyone who attended. Thank you for including us, and we look forward to many more events with the community!
We are very much looking forward to attending the Fall Festival and the Horner Park Fall Festivities throughout the month of October!

Superintendent Conference September 27th-29th
The Illinois Superintendent Conference was in Springfield September 27th-September 29th. It was extremely informative and inspiring to be with so many amazing leaders over those three days. Most importantly, I learned about important Illinois initiatives at the state level. These initiatives include student achievement in relation to our Evidence Based Funding, school safety, and literacy improvement. Dr. Brent Clark spoke to us on the importance of all three of the initiatives and how thinking and working on these initiatives now will support the district positively in the future. The district is currently working on their PLC process to support the alignment and growth of our math instruction to improve student achievement, and we have our Safety Committee meeting this month. I am proud to be a superintendent serving Lebanon and Illinois!
PLCs-Early Dismissal Wednesdays
The district is working on our PLC processes and procedures to ensure the time spent on Wednesday afternoons is both effective and purposeful. With PLCs, it is essential to understand the process and realize that PLCs are not meetings but a process in which is created for the collaborative inquiry brought by educators to continually improve their practice and efficacy. This process shifts mindsets and reemphasizes that ALL students can learn and improve.
We are focusing on three big ideas to create this learning collaborative culture for our educators. These three big ideas are ensuring that ALL students learn at high levels, working together collaboratively in a collective effort to meet the needs of each student, and creating a results orientation to know if our students are learning. Additionally, we know that these big ideas will not develop overnight or hold success tomorrow, but it will be through our hard work together and diligence and faith in the process that will bring the true benefits forward for both our educators and students in the classrooms!
Two weeks ago, we all came together and collectively discussed the importance of norms and how to function collaboratively together. Moving forward, there will be two groups working on PLC days. One PLC group will be working together on the math alignment and standard understanding to promote greater math student achievement. The other PLC group will be working on the betterment of safety within our district and help facilitate the Safety Committee meetings.
Together anything is possible, and all things possible can bring success! Shout out to our PLC leaders-Dr. Wood, Mrs. Venhaus, and Ms. Emrick! We appreciate and value your leadership! As a team, we are proud to foster the love for learning and bring to life a true success for students.
Leaders of Learning by Richard Dufour and Robert Marzano is one of the books being used and referenced in this update.

Speaking of student achievement and working hard to bring student success, our district leaders have the district testing dates set for the year.
