Also, spend one more week really working to establish good homework routines and habits, by setting clear expectations and guidelines in the next couple of weeks. Involve your student in setting these routines. Remind them to use their assignment notebook to keep track of everything they need to do!
Check out some of our collaborative work from last week!
Next Week's Set List (August 17-21)
Week at a Glance/Skills for the Week:
LITERACY – We will use our summarizing skills to begin summarizing books to give book talks and book reviews. We also continue establishing good reading habits in the classroom. Next week will also be the first week we begin reading nonfiction through our textbooks.
WRITING – Students will work on giving and receiving peer feedback and using that in their revisions. Students are also building their writing stamina.
MATH – We will wrap up Unit 1. Students will take the Unit 1 test on Friday, August 21. I will send home a study guide on Monday along with an email explaining how to utilize it!
** Please use the answer key in the family letters to check your child's work
before sending it back to school! If something is wrong, you should ask him/her
to find the mistake and correct it ... I've noticed a lot of study links coming back
that have not been double-checked with the answer key I provided you with in
the Unit 1 Family Letter. Thank you. **
SPELLING – Next week will be the unit 2 spelling test. The core words are which, its, through, several, and among.
SCIENCE – No Science this week.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We will begin unit 1 in Social Studies next week, which investigates Indiana's physical features. Essential Questions to explore: How have people over time adapted to the changes in the land? How do people use the land's resources? How have people benefited from the 3 regions created by glaciers?
