Sandia Vista Elementary
May Newsletter
Dear Thunder Families
Can you believe we only have 15 school days left! What a year it has been. We want to thank each of you for your patience and commitment to excellence during this uncertain year. We know that it was not an easy year but we have appreciated your support throughout it all! We want to send a huge thank you to our incredible staff at Sandia Vista. Every staff member has shown dedication, strength, and perseverance this year and we could not do this work without their unending love of the work they do!
A few reminders for the month of May:
- COVID: We have experienced an increase in COVID Cases over the past few weeks. We still have Covid protocols in place when students are experiencing symptoms of COVID. Please be mindful that if your child is feeling ill and has symptoms they will be required to quarantine or test. We are very close to the end of the year so we ask for your cooperation with the guidelines. If your child is sick, please keep them home. We do not want to cancel any end-of-year events because of rising cases. To find out more, please see Nurse Nina's page. https://sites.google.com/rrps.net/sve-nurse-nina/home
- Snacks: We are still asking families that choose to send in snacks to share with the class for a child's birthday that they are store-bought, individually wrapped items. We cannot accept donuts, cookies, or other bakery items that are not in individually sealed packaging. It is very difficult to have to turn families away or not allow students to share treats that are not wrapped. Please help by sending in the correct items so your students and friends can enjoy their treats and we do not have to turn them away.
- Transfers: If your child is at Sandia Vista on a transfer you will be required to complete a transfer for the next school year. A transfer form is required every school year, regardless of enrollment status this school year. Your child will not be able to attend SVE if there is not an active transfer for the 2022-23 school year. The link shows the SVE boundary. If your child is out of the SVE boundary a transfer is required. https://www.rrps.net/page/school-locations-attendance-boundaries
- Attendance: Don't forget to continue to call in when your child is absent. If your child is experiencing symptoms, regardless of vaccination status please make sure that you let Nurse Nina know so she can provide the next steps. And please continue to report positive cases using this link: Positive COVID-19 Report
- Youth Forward Survey: Please take some time to complete the survey for your students. Youth Forward Family

CREATIVITY
This month we are talking about Creativity! Creativity is more than just making things or creating art – it is about exercising our imagination to help make the world better!
Creativity: Using your imagination to create something or solve a problem.
One of the best things about being a human being is our ability to imagine! We get this cool part of our brain that allows us to not just think about survival, but also about sparkly space pigeons or colorful caterpillars or a cardboard box that is secretly a rocket ship. At this young age, kids regularly use their Creativity to entertain themselves (and us!) with all the wacky and wonderful ways they view the world. Let’s make sure they never lose that curiosity! It is that same imagination that makes a sandbox into the moon that is capable of imagining the world’s problems as opportunities for new, bold, innovative solutions. This month, we will be talking about and practicing solving problems, working in teams, and dreaming up new perspectives! The only way we change the negative normals in our world is to have the Courage and Creativity to think different!
