Thank you to everyone who has signed up for my Class Dojo! It is a fun, easy way to keep up with your child in the classroom. I have started to give students Class Dojo points for positive things I notice them doing in the classroom, as well as reminders for those areas that "need work." This weekend, I posted some photos of our first STEM Challenge. Hopefully your children told you about the fun STEM activity we did on Friday that required them to plan, build, test, and improve their plans to solve the problem of how to save "Sam" (a gummy worm) whose boat (a plastic cup) capsized with his life preserver (a gummy Lifesaver) trapped underneath the boat. Students worked with partners and the only tools they could use were two paperclips. Only the paperclips could touch the boat, the life preserver, and Sam. It was SO much fun to see the kids work out how to solve the problem! Engineering and collaboration at its best. Your Class Dojo code was one of the papers at Back to School Night. If you need another copy of your Class Dojo code, send me a quick email and I will get it for you.
As a reminder, your child should be logging on to Typing Club at least 2 times per week for 10 minutes each time to practice 10-finger typing skills. Students should access their account through my classroom webpage.
Your child will have his/her first States & Capitals quiz this Friday. Our first region will be the 8 Southern Border states. They will need to identify where the state is on a blank map and write the capital city and the state name. I have several online resources on my classroom webpage that students can use to study.
It is Book Fair week! The Book Fair is open before and after school each day. Our class will visit the Book Fair on Thursday during our regular library time. If you send money for your child to use to buy books, please put it in a Ziploc baggie or an envelope marked with their name.
This Friday is Grandparent's Day. Grandparents are invited to attend Flag Salute at 8:45 and will then be able to accompany their grandchildren to the classroom for a bit.
