Roynon Raccoon Report

March, 2021

Volume IV, Edition 5

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Roynon Families,

As you read in Superintendent Coles' email that was sent to all families on February 5th, we are planning on bringing our Roynon students back to campus in a hybrid fashion, beginning April 5, 2021. This date is our target date, but we are hopeful with the current low rates and increased availability of vaccinations for our staff that it will be the week we get to see our Raccoons in-person.

TOMORROW, Monday, March 1st, you will receive a survey asking if you will be sending your child to Roynon via the Hybrid Model or if you will choose to continue with Distance Learning for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

The survey will arrive in the form of a separate email for every student that attends Roynon. We are using a company by the name of Qualtrics to assist us in sending these individual emails, so you may see Qualtrics as part of the email. In this email, the hybrid model will be explained. Please be sure to click on the "BUSD Elementary Schools Reopening Handbook - Spring 2021" link that will be included in the email tomorrow. This handbook will answer many of the questions you may already have about the policies and procedures that will be in place during our Hybrid model. After reviewing the handbook, PLEASE respond to the survey as soon as possible, as it will allow us to start planning for a successful return to school.

I would like to invite all parents who respond to the survey in favor of returning their student(s) to the Hybrid Learning model to attend ROYNON'S HYBRID MODEL INFORMATION NIGHT on Thursday, March 18th at 6:30 via Zoom. The flyer is below and a zoom link will be sent out to all parents the week of March 15th.

On another note, registration for the 2021-22 school year for new students (not currently attending Roynon) and Kindergarten students (Class of 2033) begins tomorrow as well. Please click here to begin that process. In addition, we are currently accepting transfer permits from within and outside of our district, so if you know someone who wants their child to be a Roynon Raccoon next year but doesn't currently reside in the Roynon Boundaries, please share the link and information with them as well.

Our annual California School Parent Survey that guides our annual Local Control Accountability Report (LCAP) planning is now available. The link can be found below or here. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our school so we can continue to grow!

Finally, I encourage you to begin to talk to your child about returning to campus in person, if that is your choice. Mask-wearing will be part of the school day, so it’s a good idea to have your child practice wearing a mask. I would plan ahead and start having them wear it a little bit more each day so they are comfortable wearing it at school for four hours. Our district is also hosting a parent night this Thursday, entitled "We're Going Back to Campus." Information can be found later in this newsletter and a link to register is also provided.

As always, thank you for your support! The success of our students is dependent upon the collaboration of us all.

Your Partner in Education,

Tammi DiGrazia
