What does a Ultrasound Technologist do?

- To perform an ultrasound the technologist transmits high frequency sound waves, a handheld device called a transducer, which views the live images that it produces on the display screen

Skills Needed

- Professionals use there detailed knowledge of Anatomy to be able to discern most appropriate and representative images to record for the physician to view.

-Being alert for tiny abnormalities in a image.

-Must be able to focus on subtle details even if having to work on there feet for hours.

-Good interpersonal skills as they are working with intimately with patients

-There not permitted to inform of a suspected diagnosis or abnormality, so they have to maintain a neutral yet friendly demeanor while performing the procedure.

Salary Range

Annual median salary; $66,410 with a range of $45,840-$92,070

Level of Education

-Must have completed an accredited training program, which can take 1-4 years to complete.

- A two-year associate's degree or four-year institutions (bachelor's degree).

-One-year certificates are also available for people who have had a previous experience with healthcare .

Job Description
Echo Tech required.
The qualified candidate will perform two dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for the diagnosis of disease and study of the malfunction of organs. Must be competent to perform echocardiograms (2D), contrast echoes, TEE, and stress echoes.
The qualifications for this position include a high school degree with Associates preferred. Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology or Ultrasound Technology, either college affiliated or hospital trained. One year of radiologic/imaging experience required. Prefer specific experience and training in Ultrasound. Must be registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography as RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer). Must have current BCLS certification.
