RIVERSIDE REVIEW

Principal Update
Happy Friday RSI Parents and Family Members,
Believe it or not, next week will be the final week of school for the 2021-2022 school year. I am thankful that our students are winding down their NWEA assessments and beginning to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Last week the RSI student body and community had the opportunity to enjoy the exceptional Night at the Tonys Musical. If you attended this event you know that it was tremendous performance by our young Hawks! Thank you to our amazing music teachers, Lisa Finn and Wendy Holsman, for putting this show together. Thanks to our parent helpers as well. It is safe to say we have some serious talent among our student body as that show was a pure hit. (See photos below)
This week we had the pleasure of seeing the RSI Hawks make the Indy Star. Below you can click the link to review the article and video about Mr. Dashiell and Mrs. Asher's student goat project. What started out with persuasive writing ramped up into a multi-faceted project with connections to the city, Hub and Spoke, and so much more. I hope you check it out and if you want to help support our goats and their enclosure, click that "Goat Fund Me" link. Congrats to this student group, job well done!
Thanks for your continued support at home while we hammer out the final five days of school ahead. Friday, next week, our 6th grade students will have their end of year party sponsored by the PTO. All 6th grade students will receive a free t-shirt and enjoy an outdoor party, weather permitting. Thanks to the PTO for their generous support!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dana Kaminski, Ph.D.

Covid Positive Reporting
Covid Info for Families
Please remember to send your student to school healthy. If a student is ill and has any of the symptoms of Covid listed below, we encourage you to get your student tested using a PCR test, which is available via Fishers Health Department (COVID Vaccine | Fishers, IN - Official Website) or the Indiana Department of Health (ISDH - Novel Coronavirus: COVID-19 Testing Information). PCR tests are the most accurate and provide less risk of a false positive or negative result. A visit to your physician is also suggested if you feel this is not Covid-related, then a doctor's note would be needed for your student to return to school. Please do not send your child to school ill or while waiting for Covid test results.
Symptoms to monitor for:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of Breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore Throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
Covid Test Kits
The Indiana Department of Health has supplied HSE Schools with Covid test kits to provide to our families. Test kits are available for families to pick up at the school or if your student is being sent home from school with Covid-like symptoms, the nurse will offer to send a test kit home with your student. Testing does not take place in the school by nursing but can be sent home for a parent/guardian to perform.
Rental iPad Return Information
The following information only applies to students and families who rented an iPad from HSE this year. We ask these families to carefully review the following information.
WHEN AND WHERE WILL RENTAL IPADS BE COLLECTED?
iPads will be collected next week at your student’s school.
iPad collection will happen during school hours on May 18th and 19th for our in-person students.
iPad collection will happen at RSI on May 23rd from 10am-3pm for our virtual students.
WHAT NEEDS TO BE RETURNED?
All students will return their rented HSE iPad and cases.
WHAT ABOUT CHARGING BRICKS AND CORDS?
Rented cords and bricks will not be collected. If you are a new renter, you are welcome to keep the rented cord and brick that were issued to you. Repeat renters will not receive a new cord and brick. You may use the one initially provided to you or you may provide your own.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE THE IPAD FOR RETURN?
Please take a date/time stamped picture of your student’s iPad, while the screen is on with the student’s login information visible. This is to assist in verifying the condition of iPad at the time of return. We ask that families follow the directions in the link below to prepare the iPad for return. It is important that families follow all steps in the link. It is important that families DO NOT erase/reset the iPad on their own. HSE must verify that the iPad has been signed out of their Apple ID before the iPad is reset. iPad return directions
WHAT IF THE IPAD IS DAMAGED? WHAT ARE THE FEES?
A thorough inspection will assess the working condition of the iPad and case/keyboard and images will be taken to document such damage. Any damage to the iPad and/or case/keyboard will result in fees being assessed to the student’s Skyward account. Following inspection, the iPad will be erased of all content and stored for the summer.
Sample fees that could be applied to the student’s Skyward account:
- Missing iPad case for K-6 (or damaged where it cannot be reissued) - $35
- Missing iPad case for 7-8 (or damaged where it cannot be reissued) - $49.95

ATTENTION 5TH GRADE PARENTS!
The end of the school year is quickly approaching and now is the time to begin thinking about required vaccines for your child who will be entering the 6th grade. The Indiana State Department of Health requires additional immunizations for all 6th grade students after they turn 11 years old.
The required shots are:
-- Tdap (Tetanus diphtheria & acellular pertussis) booster
-- Meningococcal conjugate
If your child will not turn 11 years old prior to the first day of school in August, he/she will be required to receive the above vaccines within 20 school days after their 11th birthday.
After your child receives the vaccines, please provide an updated shot record to the school nurse as soon as possible. Your child’s Skyward account will be updated accordingly.
Children with a medical or religious exemption on file are required to have a new form completed each year. Please contact the nurse for more information or to obtain the necessary forms.

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
Response to Instruction (RtI) is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
