HST continues its journey on becoming a National School of Character!
Dear HST Family,
At HST, we value every aspect of education. We believe that a student's education goes far beyond just teaching them reading, math, and science, but is also about teaching them how to be helpful and productive citizens in an ever changing world. We do this by embedding social-emotional learning and character education into every classroom and experience at school.
Over the past few years, we developed and began using the acronym ROAR (Respect, Organized, Achieve, Ready to Learn) to help reinforce the values and expectations on campus. Those that are attending school on campus will see this acronym (like the image below) in the classrooms, hallways, and cafeteria. Those that are attending school virtually will see the acronym displayed in their schoology courses and possibly as part of their teacher’s virtual classroom.
In order to better serve our students, we would like to understand what each word in the ROAR acronym represents to all the people that make up our school community. For this reason, we are asking all parents, students, and teachers to fill out this survey to give us feedback on what Respect, Organized, Achieve, and Ready to Learn means to them. The survey is only five questions and should take less than ten minutes to fill out.
Thank you for helping us to improve every student’s educational experience at HST.

PSAT 8/9 TEST Tuesday, OCT. 27, 2020
Dear 8th Graders Parents/ Guardians
I hope you are doing well. This year our 8th-grade students will take the PSAT 8/9 test and inform our parents regarding this test. The PSAT 8/9 helps students determine what they need to work on most so that they’re ready for college when they graduate from high school—and it supports educators as they guide the way. You don’t need to make any payment for the test; the school already paid for the testing materials, and the test will be on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. Please plan accordingly and make sure that your child arrives at school no later than 8:30 am on the testing day since we will start the testing at 9 am. The test will end at 12:40 pm. Please make sure your kid(s) eat her/his breakfast before they come to school.
The PSAT 8/9 tests the same skills and knowledge as the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and PSAT 10—in a way that makes sense for eighth and ninth graders. It measures what they’re already learning, shows them whether they’re on track for college, and lets them know where they need the most improvement. That means students have time to tackle these areas long before they take the SAT.
The PSAT 8/9 is highly relevant to your future success and focuses on the skills and knowledge at the heart of education. It measures:
What you learn in school
What you need to succeed in college
How to Get Ready
You don’t have to discover secret tricks or cram the night before.
The same habits and choices that lead to school success will help you get ready for the PSAT 8/9 and other tests in the SAT Suite of Assessments. The best way to prepare is to:
Take challenging courses
Do your homework
Prepare for tests and quizzes.
Ask and answer lots of questions.
In short, take charge of your education and learn as much as you can.

Where do you want to start?
Please check the below links what to bring on the testing day and for more information.
Note: Students don’t need to bring any calculators; the school will provide the calculators.

This year we will be doing VIRTUAL HOME VISITS!
Education is at its best when all stakeholders involved share a common vision and passion to see students thrive in and out of the classroom. Families, teachers, and school staff all play vital roles in ensuring excellence in our campus education.
We plan to visit each student one on one with their parents for a few minutes to ensure our students receive the wrap-around support needed for their success. Please email us @Ayse Tas when you are available. It is just a time to get to know each other better and explain a little more about our expectations this year.
