Solar Activity
The Sun
The Core
This part of the sun is filled with helium and hydrogen. Hydrogen is the fuel for nuclear fusion.
The Radiation Zone
The temperature here is about 3 million degrees Celsius. This is where nuclear fusion is carried out by photons and neutrinos.
The Convection Zone
This part is cool and dense so the atoms absorb the energy. The temperature is about 2 million degrees Kelvin.
Photosphere
This part emits visible (white) light that reaches earth. This is the coolest region of the sun.
Cromosphere
This part of the sun is made of mostly hydrogen. It can have a pinkish tint.
Corona
The outermost layer of the sun that is seen in eclipses. Lets off wave lengths.
Sun Spots
These are dark, cool patches appearing periodically in groups on the suns surface. They are associated with a strong magnetic field.
Prominance
This is an arc of gas that erupts from the surface of the earth.
Solar Flare
A solar flare is a magnetic storm on the sun that appears to be very bright.
Aurora
This is a ring around the sun that is viable from earth.
