Expand Yourself
Vincent van Gogh believed that paintings were to be individualized. Meaning that what symbolism in the paintings meant from person to person would vary. In the traditional impressionist paintings they were very restrictive thought wise. Thoreau believed that government got in the way of expansion and progress of the people. Which is much like what van Gogh's paintings would allow others to use their minds and imagination, expanding their horizons making them think for themselves.
