What's happening this week...
Reading- Our story this week is Hellen Keller. Please read this every night. There is no trifold this week, instead there is a comprehension sheet that is not due until Friday. Students should have no problem completing this rather quickly. I have also changed up our Vocabulary homework. Please check over this with your child. Students took a pretest today as well.
Our Fairytale, Folktale and Fable unit is going very well. We have learned all about Fact and Opinion, Comparing and Contrasting, Characterization, and this week we will discuss deeper about theme. Theme will be an integral part of every story we read from now on.
Language Arts- Our spelling pattern this week will focus on words that have the long u sound spelled with oo, ui, ew, and ue. We will delve deeper into adverbs. So far we have talked about adverbs that tell how, this week we will be working on adverbs that tell where.
Math-- We have started time and are already talking about quarter after, quarter till, half past and to the minute! The most difficult part of this unit will be the elapsed time portion. I am going to be using a number line so the can see how time travels in a straight line. You will get a sheet explaining it as well so you can assist your child as well.
Social Studies/Science-- WE ROCKED our test over Georgia's First Colony. I will get those grades in to RenWeb tonight or tomorrow. We started our Unit over Energy today. The kids showed a lot of "energy" during our discussions today. ;)
Student Treasures Book Forms
We are writing our own stories in second grade that will be turned into a book!!!! We are very excited and will start them this week. I need everyone to return their forms by FRIDAY whether you are purchasing one or not so I can get a free copy for the class.
Candy Grams
Honors Club is selling candy grams for Valentine's Day. Students, parents, and
teachers can purchase a candy gram for their friends and classmates for only
$1. Proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association. Each candy gram
will have a short message and who it is from with a piece of candy. Please fill
out the form below and return it with the money to your child's teacher NO LATER
THAN WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12 so that they can be put together. If you have
questions, please contact Vickie Luther at vluther@peachtreeacademy.com or
Lynn Osborne at losborne@peachtreeacademy.com.
Open House
February 4th at 6:00 pm- Bring a friend, have some dinner and hear about Dreaming the Peachtree Dream.
February 9th 2:00-4:00 pm- Invite your friends to tour the campus.
COLD AND FLU SEASON
We have had several cases of the type A flu In an effort not to spread germs, please keep your child at home if they are running a fever or have vomited. They need to be fever and vomit free for 24 hours before returning to school. Remind them to sneeze and cough into the crook of their elbow. They have been awesome with practicing that in class as well as washing their hands and using hand sanitizer!
Box Tops and Campbell's Soup Labels
A big thank you to everyone collecting!!!
Here is a link for a way to collect 50 labels.
