Glenealy School Newsletter
28th February 2018
Message from Brenda
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
Happy New Year!
Good health, good luck and much happiness throughout the Year of the Dog.
It was wonderful to celebrate with the community yesterday by gathering to watch the professional lion dancers in the morning and then seeing the children perform a myriad of performances highlighting Chinese language, arts and culture during the day. A special thanks to our Mandarin teachers and EAs who worked the with students to create such a wonderful event and to Mr Benzie for his drumming expertise with the year 6 students.
Farewell to Ms Thompson
After 28 years of working at Glenealy School Ms Gay Thompson has handed in her resignation for the end of this academic year. Gay feels it’s the right time to return to the UK where most of her immediate family are now living. It will seem very strange not having Gay on our teaching team after all these years. She has always shown high passion and enthusiasm for all things physical. This includes a strong PE programme, involvement in extra-curricula sports and has also spearheaded our outstanding outdoor education programme. Obviously we will be doing a lot more to bid farewell to Gay closer to the time.
In the meantime on behalf of everyone, I would like to thank her for her significant and noteworthy contribution to ESF and Glenealy School. She will certainly leave a legacy in many areas of PE, sport, camps and adventure experiences. Thank you Gay!
Flu Season
Please be reminded that the flu season is not over yet. There are a number of people in HK still suffering from this and we ask you to take extreme caution by checking your child’s temperature if they are feeling unwell. Please do not send them to school if they have a temperature or feeling unwell. Please remind your child to wash their hands thoroughly. The School site staff are following stringent cleaning protocols too.
Student led conferences are next week.
Please note that the Music, PE and Mandarin rooms will also close during snack time (10.45-11.15am) and lunch time (12.45-1.30pm) on Friday 9th March.
Due to extra-curricula activities, they will also close promptly on Friday 9th at 3:00 pm. Have you booked your student led conference on Gateway? Click here to view previous information and to find out more about how they run.
We still have a number of families across the school who have not booked a time. Get in quick!
School will be open for student conferences next Friday 9 March, normal classes will not take place that day.
Children will not come to school unless they have a consultation that day. Children who are attending consultations are not required to wear school uniform.
2E parents are already aware that their consultations are at alternative times.
