Pre-K Loves Colors!
Pre-K students have enjoyed learning all about colors! During music time we have been learning color songs that teach us how to spell the color words. During small group, we wrote color words, sorted colored objects, and made tissue paper rainbows! During our cooking activities, we have used recipes to "cook" food. Students have been able to try green eggs and ham, rainbow fruit loop kabobs, and green shamrock shakes. During center time, students have been able to eat healthy colored foods such as cucumbers, strawberries, blueberries, green peppers, and cauliflower. In the discovery table, we made rainbow rice and explored what happens when we mix it all together. Lastly, students have enjoyed such stories as Bear Sees Colors, Penguins Love Colors, and A Color of His Own.

Kindergarten celebrates Dr. Seuss
To celebrate St. Patrick's Day the kindergarteners made and tasted Leprechaun pudding and went on a leprechaun hunt because a leprechaun played some tricks on them in their classrooms! They didn't catch the leprechaun but they did find a pot of gold that the leprechaun left for them in the office!

Grammar Rules!
Second graders are learning grammar usage and rules in a fun way. They enjoy playing a game each week after they learn the skill and before they try out the skill on their own independently. They played the game “I Have, Who Has” to match antonyms or opposites. They listened and responded to each other to match words with opposite meanings. These games making learning fun and memorable!
Art in Science
Mrs. Barker, the Art in Science teacher, visited Haskin and taught the third graders about stains. She discussed the concepts of soluble (able to be dissolved) and insoluble (not able to be dissolved) using salt and water- soluble, and pepper and water - insoluble. Then Mrs. Barker used coffee filters with permanent and washable marker to show the concept again. The students then each received a ceramic tile, which they colored with permanent markers. Mrs. Barker then added isopropyl alcohol to the surface, which made the colors “bleed” into one another because permanent markers are soluble in isopropyl alcohol.
It’s an Earful
Mr. John Frieders brought Ag in the Classroom to Haskin third graders where they learned about corn and agriculture. Students learned about the planting process, what products are made with corn, how a kernel grows, and got to make their own paper corn stalks. Mr. Frieders also shared information about his own farming operation which includes hogs, corn, and soybeans.
