We love our students and are thrilled when they are recognized for all the positive acts of kindness they contribute in their classrooms!
Miss Wetzel's Counselor Corner
This week for our Steps to Strong In Every Way time, our variety of topics this week were Following Directions, Using Self Talk, and Being Assertive. Focusing-attention and listening skills are tools for students to use when following directions. Self-talk is an important skill for learning that students can use to stay focused, stay on task, and ignore distraction! Our 3rd and 4th grade students learned about being assertive. The ability to communicate assertively not only contributes to academic success, but it is also important for solving problems and standing up for oneself or others.
The grade levels’ link below will take you to a page called Home Links. Some Steps to SIEW lessons have fun activities for you and your child to complete together! They are a great way for you to understand what your child is learning and for your child to show you what he or she knows!
SGE Spotlight: Preschool
Preschool is off to great start! We have been busy the last two weeks learning our colors and classroom expectations. Deputy Todd has made multiple visits to our classrooms. He has read a story and even helped during center time. Looking forward to a fun-filled year with lots of learning and playtime.
Picture Day is coming soon!
2nd Annual International Fair!
SGE is excited about its 2nd annual International Fair this Fall! We invite families to sign up, set up a small table or booth, and share their culture or present a country to which they feel personally connected. During this event, our students will have an opportunity to travel the globe to experience the different cultures enriching the Stonegate community. Want to participate but don't have a country to represent? We can help team you up with another family! Please help us kick off the preparation for this event by completing the quick form here. We look forward to your support and participation and can't wait to have you join us for the 2018 International Fair. We will be in touch in September to further coordinate. Questions? Please contact Afshan Paarlberg at azraza2@gmail.com.

2018 Jog-A-Thon Fundraiser
SAVE THE DATE! Our 2018 Jog-A-Thon fundraiser will take place on Wednesday, September 26th at each of Zionsville's five elementary schools. Jog-A-Thon is a huge success every year because of our volunteers, so please mark September 26th on your calendar and join us if you can to help cheer on our kids! Last year we raised more than $20,000 for Stonegate! These donations fund teacher grants and technology as well as playground and gym improvements.
We’d like to thank the Stonegate families who have businesses sponsoring Jog-A-Thon this year!

BACKGROUND CHECK INFORMATION
We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.
Examples include:
- Field Trip Chaperones
- Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
- Tutors
- Volunteer Coaches
- Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
- Library Helpers
- After Prom Workers
- Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
- Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.
Examples Include:
- Lunch Guests
- Classroom Guest Speakers
- Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
- Parent/Teacher Conferences
We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.
Did You Know?
ZCS, like other public schools, has a no-idling policy for vehicles on campus. The purpose of the policy is to limit vehicle emissions that might be brought into the schools and adversely impact the health of our students and staff. If you are stopped on campus for more than 5 minutes, please remember to turn off your engine. We thank you for abiding by this policy to help reduce the exposure to these emissions.
