A Message from Principal Nixon--April 6, 2021

Dear Northwoods Families,

I hope everyone had the opportunity to rest and relax last week. With spring break winding down, it's time for us to begin the final push of the 2020-21 school year! Please take a few minutes to read through the information below.

School Information

Important Change To Student Health Screenings:

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is no longer requiring health screenings for students or staff prior to entering the school building. As such, WCPSS is recommending that schools eliminate health screenings during morning arrival, effective immediately. The elimination of health screenings should dramatically speed up our carpool line (Let's celebrate the small victories!).

Despite this change, we will remain committed to keeping our students, staff, and community safe and healthy. We ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

Students should not be in school if they are diagnosed with COVID-19, exposed to someone with COVID-19, instructed to quarantine, or if they are sick or experiencing any of these symptoms:

  • 100.4° fever or higher

  • Sore throat

  • New cough

  • New shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Diarrhea or vomiting

  • New severe headache

2020-21 Yearbooks:

5th Grade Parents ONLY!!! Please DO NOT purchase a yearbook for your child. The PTA is providing each 5th grader a yearbook at the end of the year. If you need to purchase a yearbook for a younger sibling, please follow the link above but you do not need to purchase a book for your graduating 5th grader this year.

Yearbooks are now available for pre-order! The deadline is April 15th and we will only have a very small quantity for purchase after so it is best to pre-order. The cost of the yearbook is $20 and can be purchased here at

If you have any questions, please email

Q3 Report Cards:

Q3 report cards will be issued on Friday, April 9th. Virtual Academy teachers will email report cards for their students. Printed report cards will be created and sent home with students who participate in face-to-face instruction.

End-of-Grade Assessments:

Students in grades 3-5 will have the opportunity to take the End-of-Grade (EOG) assessments later this spring. Separate testing windows have been created to accommodate students who participate in Virtual Academy and those participating in person. Please see the information below. Grade-specific testing dates will be shared at a later date.
