Lunchroom Rules
STARS Behavior in the lunchroom
S-T-A-R-S
At the beginning of each year the staff evaluates our systems/programs to identify areas where we can improve. This year we identified the need to have a Behavior Matrix that identifies model behavior in the classrooms, hallways, library, bathroom, carpool, recess, and the cafeteria.

This flyer will explains the new expectations in the lunchroom. Please take a few minutes to review our lunchroom procedures. We appreciate your support as we strive for excellence at JHCS.
Unopened food basket
Students are encouraged to place unopened, prepackaged food items in a basket rather than throwing it away. This allows other students who may have forgotten a lunch to have items from the basket. We do ask students to eat their own lunch before picking items from the basket.

Students have 15 minutes to eat and 15 minutes to play outside
Students are given 15 minutes to eat lunch and 15 minutes to play on the playground. We decided as a staff that students must remain in the lunchroom the entire 15 minutes. This allows the students on the playground full access to the playground equipment/field. Each grade has the field/playground by themselves during lunch recess.
STARS Behavior in the lunchroom
Safety 1st
- Stay with your food while it is in the microwave.
- Also, due to the fact that we only have a few microwaves, we ask that students to bring food that can be cooked in 3 minutes or less.
Take Responsibility
- Leave it cleaner than you found it.
- Only one grade level eats at a time so we only put down as many tables as we need.
Awesome Attitude
- Use please/thank you.
- Keep voices down - use indoor voices.
Respect
- Follow directions.
- We only have one staff member in the lunchroom so we want to follow directions the first time.
Strive for Excellence
- Exhibit good table manners.
- Remain seated while eating.
