School Board Appreciation Month

At the January 22 Board of Trustees meeting, the Board was recognized for their volunteer service to our students and staff. The Board is always helping our kids at GISD soar to success. The room was decorated with beautiful kites made by the GHS art class and each member received a hand painted glider from Mrs. Rice, GHS art teacher. Chalmers students signed kites made by their art teacher, Taryn Winters and provided those to each board member. The board was also treated to the winning dish from the GHS Top Cat cooking competition prior to the meeting. The video shown below was created to show students at every grade level soaring to success thanks to our Board.

Those serving Gainesville ISD on the 2017-18 Board of Trustees are: Corey Hardin (President), Mike Schmitz (VP), Doug Wade (Secretary), Mike Rosenberg, Will Presson, Phil Neelley, Marvin Royal. To learn more about the Board members, click HERE.

Elementary UIL Win District

The Elementary (grades 2-5) UIL meet was hosted by GISD and was held at NCTC January 11-12. For the second consecutive year, GISD claims the title of District Champions. These teams have been working hard since October, preparing for the meet before and after school with their team coaches. Thank you to all of our hardworking students, their parents, and all of our Academic UIL coaches!

Rap, Rhythm, and Rhyme Writing Workshop

This year, our students throughout the district who are preparing for the Writing STAAR have been provided with a FULL day writing workshop! The workshop, led by Erik Cork, is a fast-paced writing workshop designed to empower students to systematically organize their thoughts and communicate them effectively on paper. The students were actively engaged and using raps, rhythms, and rhymes to learn more about the writing process.

On Monday, the 4th grade students at Chalmers had a day packed full of fun, writing, and learning. GHS Freshman and Juniors split the day on Tuesday and GJH 7th grade participated all day Friday. Lee Intermediate 6th grade students have the literacy workshop on February 13. We are pleased to be able to offer such enriching learning opportunities for our students at GISD!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute

Desmond Pouncil (8th grade) and Deserae Pouncil (11th grade) were asked to speak and the Martin Luther King Jr community tribute on MLK Day. The presentation was incredible, and the Pouncil's were asked to perform the same tribute at the January Board of Trustees meeting. An outstanding job by two incredible students!

Edison Elementary students have the opportunity to earn HERO bucks for being responsible, respectful, having character, and being a good friend to others. Students may then shop in the HERO store and purchase items. The HERO store is staffed with Edison 1st graders.
The Edison PTO held a fundraiser to help raise money for spring events. They let the students duct tape Mr. De to the wall! For each $1 that a student donated to PTO, the student got a piece of duct tape to help keep Mr. De attached to the wall. Thank you PTO for all that you do for our students!
The sixth grade Project Lead the Way students completed their home design projects. They designed and built their own custom homes using Sketch-up. Pictured here are Emily Mesta and Julissa Medina with their finished projects. We definitely have some future architects here!!
