Ohio Association of Student Leaders, June 2020
The Ohio Association of Student Leaders is an organization dedicated to the teaching of leadership skills, organizational skills, and people skills valuable to the members and officers of all student organizations!
We made a commitment last week, and we want share with you what we’ve been up to in our fight against racism and injustice. Over the past week, we have been collaborating with a team of diverse educators, community organizers, and OASL alumni to further build out our 2020 summer curriculum. What we have shared here in this post about our plans is only the beginning. Our work researching, designing, and building curriculum for this important cause, and to include diverse teams of staff and students in this process, will continue. Thank you for continuing to hold us and your communities accountable, and for pushing us to be and do better. We love you.
OASL has been offering our premiere summer workshop programming since 1957! We are pleased to share our fun and engaging Summer Workshop Reimagned experience that will still include traditional events such as small council activities, large group sessions, Olympics, TTMAB, Songfest/Funfest talent shows, and opportunities for students to connect 1-on-1 with new and old friends. New sessions include a keynote speaker, live entertainment, leadership panel, large and small group sessions centering on empathy, and how we can make our schools & communities more just, equitable and inclusive places. Students will share and cultivate leadership skills such as empathy, a growth mindset, communication, group facilitation and inclusion while focusing on three tiers of leadership: the individual leader, leading within a group, and serving as a leader in students’ home schools and communities.
The magic of summer workshop has never been about a physical place. The magic is created through the chance to engage in authentic and meaningful ways with one another, and shared through our efforts to incorporate the lessons and love we experience at workshop into our everyday lives. This is why we are confident that together we can reimagine Summer Workshop and create a virtual experience that develops and shares the OASL magic as always, and in new ways!
We sincerely hope that you will join us on this new and exciting journey! It will not be the same without you, and we look forward to seeing you soon! Here’s to keeping the OASL love and learning alive not only this summer, but for future summers to come.
