COVID Testing Update

Dear JC Families,

As stated in Dr. Jones’s weekly communication we now have the ability to test for COVID-19 here in the Greenwich Public Schools using the Abbott BinaxNOW SARS-CoV-2 antigen test. This test is a rapid antigen test (not a PCR) that works best in a symptomatic patient and within the first seven days of the onset of symptoms. In the event your child becomes acutely ill with COVID-19 symptoms during the school day I am able to test your child using this method. These tests are to be used on a very limited basis. They will only be used on a very ill child with onset of symptoms here at school. If a child is sent to school with symptoms the test will not be administered and you will be called to pick your child up from school.

We do NOT have the capability to test large numbers of students and are unable to function as a testing facility. If your child meets the criteria for testing and the parent has provided permission, the test will be administered and the parent will be notified. In any scenario, it is necessary that parent and emergency contact information is updated and there is someone available to pick your child up immediately.

If your child tests negative this does not mean they will be able to stay here at school for the remainder of the day. Our current illness policy is still in effect. We have attached the authorization for testing here at Julian Curtiss for you to sign and return to the health office if you choose to allow for your child to be tested when necessary. No testing will be performed without guardian authorization. Please feel free to contact the health office at any time with any questions or concerns, or if you need a hard copy of the form.
