Jesse Boyd Elementary~~~ October 22, 2017
Greetings from Dr. Rose
Hello from the only one JBE where we inspire and equip your students to love where they learn this school year. We hope that you enjoyed your conference last week. We appreciate, more than you know, being a part of your student’s educational process. We had 96% of our students take part in a student led conference and that is amazing to watch. Our students are leaders, and part of leadership is knowing your strengths and weaknesses as well as being able to communicate those to others. We feel our students did an excellent job in doing just that! I appreciate you taking time out of your extraordinary busy schedule to allow your students to showcase themselves. While most of you are aware of state testing results and report cards, I wanted those who did not attend conferences to know that report cards come home on the 30th, and if you did not receive state testing results (2nd-5th grade only), those will also be sent home in report cards.
Spooktacular
Sppoktacular
Thursday night is our PTSO’s annual Spooktacular. This fun carnival like event has bouncy houses, spooky (and non-spooky) stories, a spooky (and non-spooky) maze, Bingo, face painting, haunted hayride, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin decorating, and other events. We also will have food and ice cream for purchase. Tickets for students can be preordered (using the form below) and is less expensive and more convenient than waiting in the long line at the door. Please get those preorder forms in by Tuesday.
Spooktacular Help
Spooktacular help
Our PTSO cannot put on Spooktacular without the help of our amazingly supportive parents. Sign up to volunteer using this link HERE. Additionally, donations are requested for the cake walk and the pumpkin decorating. See the flyer below.
Flu Shot Sign Ups
Almost two weeks ago, letters were sent home detailing information about the flu shot clinic to be held here at JBE. The deadline for completing forms is WEDNESDAY. Please see the letter below for more details and remember that the deadline is Wednesday.
Red Ribbon Day-WEDNESDAY
Wednesday, October 26th, we will celebrate Red Ribbon Day. Our theme this year is “Being Drug Free is No Sweat!” Our students are encouraged to come to school dressed in their favorite work out attire. Our guidance counselor, Ms. Pressley, will be having age appropriate lessons during guidance classes about staying healthy and staying drug free.
Apple Distinguished School
Just last week, Jesse Boyd Elementary was named an Apple Distinguished School. JBE was one of 175 schools world wide to receive this designation. JBE was honored for its use of innovation using Apple products in the classroom. Each teacher at JBE is common sense media certified, has taken all course work to be Apple teacher certified and uses technology to not just enhance the learning experience but to modify, extend, and engage learning beyond the four walls of the classroom. We are super excited to have received this designation and applaud the work of Dr. Wanda Greenfield, Mrs. Jeanie Cox, all staff, and most importantly our students.
Box Tops
October 27th is the deadline for turning in BoxTops for the Fall collection. You can find box tops of many products in your home-not just food. Many paper towels, trash bags, and baggies have box top labels. You can also have family and friends help this effort out as well by simply asking them to save their box tops for you. When turning them in, please put them in a baggie with your student’s teacher’s name on the bag. The “community” (either Hub City, Sparkle City, The Burg, or the Spartans) who collects the most box tops will be featured in a Box Top/JBE Youtube video. The two classes with the most boxtops will receive extra recess.
Lost and Found
Each year at this time our Lost and Found explodes with items. Because our students dress in layers when it is cool in the mornings and begins to heat up during the day, often times, those layers are left in gym, cafeteria, and/or the playground. Our lost and found is located outside the nurse’s office where items are hung on racks. Each January and June, we empty the racks and take items to the local children’s shelter. We ask that you put your child’s name on items such as jackets, coats, hoodies, and even lunch boxes. This helps us get items back your student rather than putting them in lost and found.
