ELA- Mr. Jones
This week we started our new unit: Realistic Fiction. It is a writing unit in which students will eventually write their own Realistic Fiction Short Story as a final writing piece. Over the next several weeks, we will be engaging in learning skills and strategies to write awesome fiction. So far this week, we’ve covered what elements make a good story, and today we focused on gathering story ideas. ALSO, since we now have assessments entered in the gradebook, I wanted to share the Grading Formula. Many may think it’s just an average of all assignments that make up a term grade, however, it’s more complex. Formatives are worth 20% of grades and Summatives are worth 80%. I’ve included a formula sheet with a couple examples that you can view on the website here. You can try it by plugging in your students scores.
Science- Mrs. Creath
Social Studies- Mrs. Pettid
This week students have been studying the characteristics of River Valley Civilizations. After exploring the shared characteristics, we have begun to focus on the specific geographical characteristics of each civilization. We began with Mesopotamia and Egypt. Students have two assignments that are due Monday; a map assignment and a Google Earth assignment.
Next week, we will continue with India and China.
