On Wednesday, April 17, nearly 200 students across 4 different competing choirs from Central High School traveled to the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center in Midland for the Regional UIL Concert & Sight-reading Contest. Three of the four groups representing CHS brought home Sweepstakes Awards, the highest honor awarded at the contest.
This contest represents an entire year of growth and skill development by each of the groups and their student members. The judges evaluate the choirs against the highest standards of excellence since there is only a single, regional level of competition. During these contests, each group performs a selection of musical works for a panel of three judges and then sight-reads for another panel of three judges. For a group to earn a Sweepstakes Award, they must earn a combined rating of Superior on both portions of the contest.
The Bobcat Chorale, Bella Voce Women’s Choir, and the Concert Ladies Choir each received Superior ratings in Concert and Sight-reading, earning each group a Sweepstakes Award. The Men’s Choir received a Superior rating in Concert and an Excellent rating in Sight-reading.
We’re incredibly proud to have continued the history of superior, sweepstakes-winning choirs at Central High School that remains unbroken for the last 60 years. We have a rich tradition of excellence in choral music at Central High School that goes back decades. Our students take great pride in continuing that legacy each year.
You will be able to hear the award-winning choirs from Central High School in concert at 7:30pm on Thursday, May 23, at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Admission is free, and the community is warmly invited to attend.
HarmoniCats Show
The show choir of Central High School, The HarmoniCats, will present their annual spring show on Friday, April 26, at the Central High School Sarah Bernhardt Theater.
Central High School is proud to be home to one of the only show choirs in West Texas. The group’s performances are highly entertaining, incorporating singing, dancing, acting, costumes, and theatrical lighting and sound.
This year’s show is “A Night on Broadway” with all music on the program being from Broadway musicals. Just some of the musicals being featured are Annie, Spamalot, Hamilton, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Little Shop of Horrors, Hairspray, Newsies, Rent, Footloose, Les Misérables, Beauty and the Beast, and many more! The show also features performances by talented soloists, small groups, and our graduating seniors.
Admission is only $5 at the door. Doors open for seating at 6:30pm and the show begins at 7:00pm.
Reminders
PAST DUE: Orlando Trip Payments
We're less than 45 days out! Make sure that you have paid the final balance on your trip (check Charms). Our travel agency is requesting that our final payment be mailed this week! More information will be sent out very soon about rooming lists and the trip meeting. Keep an eye out for that information.
Check Your Charms Accounts
Please remember that any outstanding and unresolved fundraisers, fees, and fines will be submitted to the CHS Hold List. Being on the hold list prevents students from purchasing parking permits, registering for classes, checking out text books, graduating, etc. If you find your name on one of these lists, please take steps to resolve it ASAP. If you think there is an error, let a director know. If you know you owe something, please get the money turned in. It will not magically go away. :)
We are asking for your cooperation to get all of these items resolved prior to May. Thank you for your help with this.
