Sock Drive

Our annual winter Sock Drive was a huge success! We collected over 1,460 pairs of socks to keep less fortunate community members warmer and drier this winter. The top three classes with the most socks collected were: 1) Ms. Demello's class; 2) Ms. Mohs' class; and 3) Ms. Quinn's class. The socks were donated to both the Visalia Rescue Mission and the Bethlehem Center. A huge thanks to all of our students and families who participated!

Crafts Around the World

During GLC's first three years, we held an Ornaments Around the World family night each December. To keep the tradition alive this year (when we can't hold large family events!), our teachers collaborated to create a learning experience for each grade span where students could learn about a celebratory tradition from another country and create a craft. Crafts differed by grade level and included mandalas from India, henna-inspired hand art from Africa, and tile mosaics from Italy. Our kinder students even made a craft from each continent! (See picture below.) A huge thanks to our PTSA for their financial support!

Reading During Winter Break

Please continue to encourage and support your child to read a minimum of 20-30 minutes each day over winter break. Students may read independently, or be read to by someone in the home.


If you're in need of books, there's a vast digital library of books available through Sora. There are even magazines like Highlights (in English and Spanish), National Geographic Kids, Minecraft World Magazine, and much more.


According to the experts, it is best to read to your child early and often, but it also is never too late to start. Reading aloud with children is linked to these powerful results:

  • Expanded knowledge and vocabulary
  • Improved attention span and memory
  • Increased curiosity and imagination
  • Greater self-esteem, empathy, and confidence
  • Stronger, closer relationships
  • Higher educational achievement and quality of life
