Jarratt Journal
Keeping up with what's going down!
This week in ELAR!
This week was pretty crazy! First of all, it was a short week so it went by incredibly fast. Secondly, we had our first District Assessment Thursday and Friday. This assessment was a writing assessment. The students worked on editing and revising passages, as well as writing their own personal narrative. Both of these are aligned with the state requirements and are tested on "the test that shall not be named" (haha .... STAAR)
I'm confident they did well, this will act as a baseline for us this year and help me plan our road map for the remainder of 7th grade.
BOOK TALK!!! DUE SEPTEMBER 25TH
One of our major assignments each six weeks is a Book Talk. As a class, we go to the library about every three weeks. At this time the students are required to pick out a Fiction Book to read. The students are then required to take notes and analyze the book over the time that they have it and at the end of each 6 weeks they will present a speech to a small group about their book, read an excerpt from it, and finish with a recommendation. The book talk criteria is on my website at here . This is in the major grade category and is an extremely important assignment. Please encourage your child to complete the assignment and turn it in on it's due date.

Do we have homework?
Students should be reading 20 minutes a night minimum, as well as other assignments
What is AOW?
Starting September 14th we will have the ARTICLE OF THE WEEK. This is an article and a series of events the student needs to complete during the week for homework. It will be handed out every Monday and is due back on Friday. If the student misplaces it, or you would like to see what they are, they are listed by date on my website.
What is a Book Talk?
Book Talk happens every time we go to the library. The students pick a book and as they read it (in class, at home, etc) they are to respond to a series of questions that aid in better understanding what they have read. These are MAJOR grades and are due once a 6 weeks.
