Resource Teachers Weekly Update
Week of 4/27-5/1
Mr. Black
Mr. Cetro
This week, students in math continued instruction in the ratios and proportions unit focusing on solving proportions in isolation and in word problem context. Next week, students in math will estimate proportions and will be introduced to finding rates of change using tables and graphs.
This week, students in reading continued engaging in individualized reading instruction, utilizing decoding strategies to continue mastery. Next week, students in reading will continue to receive individualized instruction.

3rd hour:
This week - This week students learned about coping strategies and journaled about usage.
Next week - Students will continue to apply previously learned skills about social problem solving to label and solve a variety of problems.
6th hour A days:
This week- Students worked on compound sentences, reading comprehension and vocabulary.
Next week: Students will complete a vocabulary assignment using previously learned skills and apply skills to complete a writing piece.

1st hour:
This week: Students will read an information text for word meanings and vocabulary in both Science and History. Then they will look at text structure for these selections.
Next Week: Students will continue to read an informational test to determine the author’s purpose and evaluate an argument.
6th hour:
This week: Students will self-assess by taking an online quiz over Combining Like Terms, The Distributive Property and Equivalent Expressions, and Interpreting Linear Expression. Then they will begin an Introduction to Two-Step Equations.
Next week: Students will solve 1-step & 2-step equations, solve equations with like terms, and solve for x in an equation involving whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. 7th hour: This week: Students will apply RCRC to a Chapter Summary. Next week:.Students will learn steps and strategies of changing questions into part of the answer.

This week in ELA 7: Students read chapters 7-8 of Hunger Games and made connections to characters. They also wrote in the perspective of a character and explained what they would do. Next week students will start reading/listening to 6 chapters a week using the self monitoring strategies! They will also be working on critical thinking skills to show their understanding of what they read.
This week in ELA 8:Students read Ghost Boys chapters 4-7 and continued making connections to the text as well as note taking. Next week students will be reading/listening to 6 chapters a week using the self monitoring strategies! They will also be working on critical thinking skills to show their understanding of what they read.
This week in LS 2nd hour: Students used the idea of compare/contrast with a graphic organizer in order to look at the pros/cons of school uniforms and write a summary. Finally the students will write an opinion on school uniforms based on information from the articles. Next week students will be reading three articles on recycling and taking notes in order to create a writer response using evidence from the text.

7th hour: This week we started our poetry portion of blogging. Each student made a long sentence they created after remembering a moment/looking at a picture of a special moment in their life. From their sentence they created a poem while emphasizing words, stretching them out, and focusing on imagery. The students are still being asked to read 15 minutes a day and will have a check-in at the end of every week. Next week we will begin our unit on short stories.
3rd hour A/B: This week we continued to support the instruction being taught in Math 7 and 8. We used Khan academy for reviewing the subjects that are being taught in Math 7 and 8.

ELA
This week:
Students reviewed vocabulary and high-frequency words based on Unique Learning Systems monthly unit of study: Economics. Students applied previously taught reading strategies to the chapters Mark Wants a Videogame System and Mark Gets Hired (including a shared and independent reading). Students reviewed capitalization and punctuation rules. They also reviewed a previously taught writing checklist and writing strategies, as well as used digital tools to develop a journal entry “There is one job I want the most…”
Next week:
Students review vocabulary and high-frequency words based on Unique Learning Systems monthly unit of study: Economics. *Environmental print will be reviewed as well. Students will apply previously taught reading strategies during a shared and independent reading of Ch.3 Mark Goes to the Bank and Ch. 4 Saving and Spending Money in Unique Learning Systems. Students will review punctuation and capitalization rules. They will also review a previously taught writing checklist and writing strategies, as well as use digital tools to develop 3-5 sentence letter/card to a friend or family member that they miss, using digital tools or hand-write. Students will practice the life skills of addressing and putting a stamp on an envelope, and then mail the letter from home.
Vocational Skills
This week:
Students reviewed previously taught social skills strategies in Zones of Regulation and applied these to social daily living and job-related scenarios. Students will continue to review a rating system (Independence, Prompts, and Modeling) for Hard Skills and apply to a new weekly in-home job routine selection. Students will complete an evaluation of the job. Students will continue to review workplace and safety signs activities, as well as choose a job simulation activity in the area of mailroom, restaurants, packaging, or stocking in Unique Learning systems. Students will review what a Resume is and will update their resume (from last year) using their personal information sheet and input from parents.
Next week:

Students reviewed previously taught math strategies for counting to the next dollar using the Dollar Up strategy, counting money using TouchMoney strategy, and for adding and subtracting money using Touchpoint math, counting backward, using a 100’s chart and using a calculator. Students will complete math activities that pertain to personal goals. Students will utilize supplemental math via iXL to review basic math concepts.
Next week:

Science/Social Studies:
This week:
Students read a weekly news article called Sharing Happiness. They completed a multi-step experiment that follows the Scientific Method process called Walking Water Rainbow about Capillary Action: water can move through certain materials; also that many people are creating pictures of rainbows to share happiness during the pandemic. Students completed a map skills activity that involves navigating a neighborhood. Students reviewed storage sort of ingredients, and created a list of needed items for weekly cooking activity. Students will complete a multi-step cooking activity called Rainbow Fruit Salad.
Next week:
Students will read a weekly news article called Irwin Family Helps Animals. They will complete a multi-step experiment that follows the Scientific Method process called Making Bath Bombs. Students complete a map skills activity that involves navigating landforms of Australia. Students will review grocery store departments, storage sort of ingredients needed for weekly cooking activity, as well as a Healthy shopping activity to review food groups. Students will complete a multi-step cooking activity called Zoo Snack Mix.
Ms. Pangelinan
Wilson Reading: This week students continued listening to voice recordings of our novel and completing response logs. They participated in a discussion of our novel on zoom and we worked through some technical issues with creating videos on flipgrid. They had a choice of using flipgrid to create a video of themselves reading sentences from 4.1 or recording themselves reading sentences and emailing the recording to me. Students also practiced comprehension skills on iXL. This week, students will continue listening to pages 277-295 of our novel and completing summary logs. They will attend zoom sessions on Monday and Wednesday to discuss our novel and ask questions on assignments. Students will also practice comprehension skills on iXL.
ELA 8: This week, students will continue reading our novel and responding to comprehension/discussion questions. They wrote a Diamante poem and practice comprehension skills on iXL. Next week, students will listen to pages 99-138 of Ghost Boy and complete a summary log. They will also practice comprehension skills on iXL and write a Noun Verse poem.
Learning Strategies math: This week students worked with circles. They watched a couple of math antics videos to help them find circumference and area of circles. Next week, students will work on vertical, supplementary, and complementary angles.
Learning Strategies ELA: This week students continued listening to voice recordings of a novel and responded to some comprehension questions. They also brainstormed ideas for their next paragraph on distance learning. Next week, students will listen to Chapters 33-40 of the novel, Jack’s Run, complete summary responses and complete their distance learning paragraph.
