SHS SENIOR DYLAN HYUN WINS 3RD PLACE IN INTERNATIONAL OPTIMIST SPEECH CONTEST
Dylan Hyun, an SHS senior, placed third at the recent Optimist International Oratorical World Championship. Dylan earned $12,500 in scholarship money for his third place finish at the international competition held at St. Louis University. Dylan was among more than 25,000 students from around the world who competed in local and district Optimist Oratorical Contests, before advancing to the World Championship at the end of July. The World Championship included more than 60 students from North America, Russia, and Pakistan, competing digitally and in person, delivering a four to five minute speech on the topic “Is There a Fine Line Between Optimism and Reality?” Finalists were judged based on their speech content, poise, and presentation. Congratulations Dylan!
ONLINE TICKETING FOR MUSTANG ATHLETICS
Online ticketing is now available for Mustangs athletic events! Tickets may be purchased in advance for home events by clicking HERE. This site also works with other schools in our conference for online tickets for their events as well. Not a fan of technology? No worries - fans can still purchase tickets at the gate. With online ticketing, fans are able to use credit and debit cards for purchases, and - new this season - will also be able to use credit cards at the gate. As this new system is being implemented, please allow for some delays. If you have any questions with the online ticketing process, please contact the Athletic Department at 440.572.7102. STRONGSVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL BOOK BIN
Strongsville Middle School is now the site of a “book bin.” Bring your new, or gently read, books to this collection bin - all books collected will be sent to the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank, serving kids across Cuyahoga County.
SHS GRAD ALLIE MONYAK REPRESENTS DISTRICT WITH FIRSTENERGY INTERNSHIP
Congratulations to 2019 SHS graduate Allie Monyak. Allie spent the summer in an internship program with FirstEnergy. She was the only Strongsville student selected for the internship and was one of only 8 interns selected for the program. “ROCKIN’ AT THE REC” DANCES FOR 6TH-8TH GRADE STUDENTS
Don’t miss this year’s “Rockin’ At The Rec” Dances for students in 6th-8th grades. Click HERE for the complete schedule of dances. The first event is Friday, August 23rd from 6:30pm - 9:00pm. Tickets will be sold during lunch periods at SMS on the Thursday prior to the dance. “Rockin’ At The Rec” is sponsored by the Strongsville Council PTA. TEAM STRONGSVILLE TAILGATE + MUSTANGS FIRST HOME FOOTBALL GAME (FRI. 9/13)
The Strongsville Mustangs varsity football team plays its first home game of the season on Friday, September 13th at 7pm. The Mustangs battle the Bees from Brecksville-Broadview Hts. on Serpentini Field at Pat Catan Stadium. Don't miss the Team Strongsville Community Tailgate beginning at 5pm in the parking lot next to the stadium. IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS FOR INCOMING 7TH & 12TH GRADERS FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR
Please note the following immunization requirements from the Ohio Department of Health:
All students entering 7th grade need to receive the following immunizations prior to entering 7th grade:
One (1) dose of Meningococcal [MCV4] vaccine
(A second dose of meningococcal vaccine will be required prior to entry into the 12th grade)
One (1) dose of Tdap [tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis] vaccine
All students entering 12th grade need to receive the following immunizations prior to entering 12th grade:
Two (2) doses of Meningococcal [MCV4] vaccine
Incoming 7th and 12th graders will need to show proof of having received these vaccines before they can return to school for the 2019-20 school year (exemptions are provided for under law, call for more information).

Strongsville City Schools Health Services
Section 3313.671 of the Ohio Revised Code states that students who do not provide documentation of this immunization will be excluded from school on the 15th day after entrance, until proof is provided.

Cuyahoga County Public Library offers story time sessions year-round for children Birth to Age 5. Our story times are in full swing for the Fall. Please call the library or stop by the Children’s Desk for more information.
State of the Art Recording Studio Open to the Public!
The Strongsville Branch Library has Audio and Video Recording Studios open to the public. Customers interested in using Garage Band, iMovie, and the Adobe Suite to create sound recordings, video recordings, and more are welcome to sign-up for studio time up to one week in advance. In order to use the studio, customers must first attend an orientation session. Drop-in orientations will be held on Tuesdays - Audio studio orientation from 2:30-3:00 p.m. Video studio orientation from 3:00-3:30 p.m. and Saturdays, Audio studio orientation from 9:30-10:00 a.m. and Video studio orientation from 10:00-10:30 a.m. No registration is needed. Young at Heart. Tuesday, September 3rd / 7:00 p.m.
Meets the First Tuesdays of the month. A book club for adults who love Children and teen books. Please register in person. The topic for the next discussion is Property of the Rebel Librarian by Allison Varnes. Twelve-year-old June Harper, shocked when her parents go on a campaign to clear the Dogwood Middle School library of objectionable books, starts a secret banned books library in an empty locker.
Discuss & Design: Millennial Book Discussion. For Book Lovers Ages 18-35. Wednesday, 4th / 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Join our book club with a twist. Read the bimonthly book and come discuss it as we design something that complements the title or book cover. Books will be available at the circulation desk for checkout. Our September discussion will be Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse.
Knockout Parkinson’s: Rock Steady Boxing with Lifeworks. Friday, September 6th at 10:00 a.m.
Join Sarah Fox, LifeWorks Personal Trainer and Rock Steady Coach, for an informational seminar introducing the new Rock Steady Boxing program coming soon to LifeWorks of Southwest General. Rock Steady Boxing is a national program giving people with Parkinson’s disease hope by improving their quality of life through a non-contact boxing based fitness curriculum. Learn how this program has been shown to help those with Parkinson's to lessen the physical as well as its psychological effects and symptoms.

Bomb City, USA: The Danny Greene Era. Thursday, September 12th / 7:00 p.m.
Join us as local historian and master storyteller, Dennis Sutcliffe, shares this presentation on the Cleveland mob wars. Danny Greene and John Nardi tried to muscle in on the Cleveland Mob’s operations. The result was a bloody mob war that left Cleveland with the moniker “Bomb City USA!”
Parkfit Mall Walkers Wellness Talk: Eating to Stay Healthy. Tuesday, September 17th at 10:00 a.m.
Join us the third Tuesday of each month for this special wellness talk sponsored by Southwest Hospital. Join Wendy Zullo from Lifeworks of Southwest to learn about what you should be eating in order to stay healthy, have energy, and feel your best! The ParkFit Mall Walkers Club is a combined effort of Southwest General and SouthPark Mall in Strongsville. The Club provides an opportunity for community residents to improve their health by walking for exercise in a safe interesting and climate-controlled facility.
