Message from the Principal

Happy Wednesday BIS families,

November has been off to a wonderful start. Our students are continuing to spread kindness through our school-wide Kindness Challenges. Every week, students are challenged to practice various social skills such as greeting others and using their manners. November Kindness Calendars were also given to our classes with daily challenges and many of our students are going above and beyond to brighten our school.

Reminder: We do not have school tomorrow, November 11th for Veteran's Day. Our November Fun Friday will be Friday! Students can participate by wearing as many bright rainbow colors as they can.

BIS Highlight: Music Program

We are incredibly fortunate to have Ms. Wollstadt as our music teacher at BIS! Many of our students remember her from when they were at JFK in Kindergarten. When students walk into music class each week, they are greeted with a very excited and eager teacher who is ready to involve them in the love of music. No matter their skill or interest in music, Ms. Wollstadt brings out the best in all of our students. In class, our students are exposed to music from all cultures and backgrounds and work on rhythms and musical theory through singing, drumming, and piano!

Below is a link to her BIS Interactive Music website to learn more about what they're doing and other musical opportunities for your child.

BIS Civil Rights Team

Our BIS Civil Rights Team gathered last week and the involved students jumped right into their discussions on acceptance and appreciating differences. The team's first mission is to discuss what an inclusive welcome is and what that means for our school. Students will use the Welcome Inventory (inclusive of all races and skin colors, all nationalities and ancestries, all disabilities, all religions, all orientations, all kinds of love, and all kinds of families) to take a closer look at ways in which our school is currently inclusive and ways that we can improve on those practices.

Art to Remember

This semester, our school is participating in a unique fundraising program with Art to Remember that gives you the opportunity to purchase keepsake items with your child's artwork on them. The best part is that every keepsake order supports our school. In the coming weeks, your child will receive an order form with an online order code. Keep your eye out for this form, head to and search for your child’s name, enter their online order code, or upload artwork from home and start shopping!
