Lipids
By Meghna and Harman
Monomer
Glycerols and fatty acids are monomers of lipids.
Examples
They include different kinds of oils like olive oil, sesame oil, cooking oils, butter, dietary fat cholesterol and etc.
Functional groups of lipids
Hydroxyls and carboxyls are found in this biomolecule.
Common functions of lipids
1) used to store energy
2) used to form cell membranes
3) used for hormones and vitamins
How does its structure allow for its function?
The structure of lipids are bigger than normal which helps them store more energy.
The bigger and stronger they are, the more energy they or fat can store.
Polymer
Polymers of lipids are fats, steroids, phospholipids, and waxes.
