Here is what Kristi has to say about this story:
After getting my B.S. in psychology and working as a secretary (because I had an education but no job skills), I decided to go back to school to get my A.S. in radiologic sciences (x-ray). As part of the degree, students were required to rotate through the radiologic departments of four area hospitals rotations. My summer rotation was at St. Luke’s in Boise, which happened to be where prisoners were taken for most medical procedures. One afternoon, we received word that a triple murderer was coming down for an x-ray, which created quite a buzz, as you can imagine. We all pictured some scary-looking dude with tattoos everywhere (this was the early 90’s, so tats weren’t really a thing for the general population), and no one was super excited about performing the procedure. As luck would have it, there was a transport delay and the prisoner arrived during a shift change. All of the hospital techs were busy with other procedures or coming on or off shift, and I ended up being the only one available to take this person’s x-ray. What? Me?! Really?! But, but, but …
Okay, so maybe it turned out not to be scary after all. I was alone in the room with her (no tattoos, in case you were wondering), but she was in handcuffs and the guard stayed right outside the door. Although she was evidently pretty evil (she was convicted for setting her house on fire with her family inside [and possibly previously smothering a previous baby of hers but not convicted for it]), she was well-behaved and cooperative for me. I’m pretty sure it’s because I’m so intimidating (I’m five feet tall and at the time I weighed maybe 105 lbs). 😉 I performed x-ray exams on several prisoners from the penitentiary that summer, but she was the only convicted murderer, thankfully. It’s still a fun story to tell, even if it is anticlimactic.
