A Message From Dr. Flowers- Principal
Dear Families:
We had a great week at Brimfield Elementary! Our fall fundraiser is all over and it was a big success! Thank you to all who participated and helped support our school. Next week, our third grade students will have an opportunity to take the Ohio State Test for English/Language Arts.
We also have our fall parties on Friday, October 28th. In the morning, Kindergarten will participate in their annual fall festival. In the afternoon, students in grades 1-5 will have their fall parties. Students may dress up, but need to wear a costume that can easily be worn all day. We will have a parade at 2:00 pm for grades 1-5 and parents are able to attend and watch the parade outside. If the weather is poor, the outside parade will not take place. Each classroom has four volunteers who signed up at the beginning of the year and they are the only ones who are permitted to attend the party.
I hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.
Thanks,
Barb Flowers
COUNSELORS CORNER!
Hello Field Families!
While students are ultimately responsible for the choices they make, there are things that you can do as a parent or guardian to support your student as they work on self-regulation. One of the first steps for self-regulation is to consider what your child is communicating through his/her anger. Anger can often be a manifestation of other feelings like disappointment, sadness, or frustration. By getting to the bottom of the anger, you will be able to better help your child work through it. Another important part of self-regulation is helping your child learn and work on coping strategies they can use to help with the anger they are feeling. In school Most classes have worked with me on some coping skills, please ask your child which one they would like to use. The more you practice the coping skills with your student when they are not upset the easier it will be for them to use when they are. When you see your child using their coping skills, or at least attempting to, praise them! Let them know that their efforts have not gone unseen and that you are proud of the work they have done.
And the most important and perhaps the hardest part as a parent is to remember when your student is angry to make sure you are in control of your own anger. If we respond to the child’s anger with more anger, it can add to their anger. If you notice that you start to get angry, it’s important to use your own coping strategies. Not only will this help you support your child, but it also gives them a chance to see you modeling the behavior that you want to see from them.
If you have any concerns please feel free to contact me!

PBIS CORNER
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is an important part of the school environment to encourage positive behavior. There are clear expectations throughout the school that are taught consistently throughout the year. The four expectations promoted at Field Local Schools are:
Safe
Outstanding
Accountable
Respectful
When students do not respond to teaching of the building or classroom expectations, we will view it as an opportunity for re-teaching, not just negative consequences. Students still receive consequences for negative behavior. The goal of the consequence is to teach students so they will not repeat the negative behavior.
