DMS Needs YOUR HELP in Supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

DMS will be joining Madison City Schools to help raise money to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital! A challenge has been made by Mr. Golliver at LMS and my competitive side has kicked in and I have accepted this challenge!!! (He thinks they can raise more money for St. Jude than Discovery!) We would like to raise at least $2,500 to help the children of St. Jude and beat Liberty!

Mrs. Missy King, Media Specialist, and Mrs. Kelle Moody, Counselor, will be running in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon, representing DMS, on December 6, 2014 with the Madison City Schools District Team! Help show your support by donating to St. Jude! No amount is too small!!! Just click the link to make a Tax Deductible Donation and help us help all the children of St. Jude!!!

Did you know?

  • Many students from Madison City Schools have received treatment from St. Jude and some are receiving treatment NOW...ALL without having to pay a single penny!!! You can check out stories of local Madison City Students that have received or are currently receiving treatment on the “District News” page at .
  • Families NEVER receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
  • Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from people like you, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most – saving kids regardless of their financial situation. (That means your donation, no matter what the size, will help!)
  • St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90% by 2020.

St. Jude won't stop until no child dies of cancer, and neither will I. Will you join us and be a Hero, too?

Thank you so much for your help!!!

DMS Math Team Does Well at the Rocket City Junior Math Mania T'ment

Our math team competed in the Rocket City Junior Math Mania at Grissom High School Saturday. At this tournament, kids are divided by grade level, but not divisions based on size. They are also divided into groups of four students or less for the team test. Individual awards are based solely on the results of the individual test. The team awards are based solely on the team test, which is a collaborative effort. It not only tests knowledge, but how well the students can work together and prioritize their time and talents.

There were 114 8th graders, and individual awards were given to the top fifteen. Discovery had six of the top fifteen 8th graders.
2nd - David Li
3rd - Aditi Limaye
7th - Tony Tian
8th - Corey Tolbert
10th - Justin Byers
14th - Joshua Byers

We had two teams in the top five. With 114 individual competitors, I assume there were at least 29 teams, so having two in the top five is quite an accomplishment.
2nd - David Li, Aditi Limaye, Tony Tian, and Corey Tolbert
4th - Joshua Byers, Justin Byers, Ange Long, and Chima Ugwuegbulam

Our 7th graders also did very well. There were 131 7th graders at this competition, and we had five of the top fifteen.
4th - Victoria Lee
5th - Joy Duan
6th - Lynne Clark
14th - Sherry Lee
15th - David Teng

Our 7th graders also had two teams in the top five, out of at least 33 teams.
2nd - Joy Duan, Victoria Lee, Shreyas Pant, and David Teng
4th - Lynne Clark, Erin Kueck, Juanita Monteiro Pai, and Helen Wu

Congratulations to all of our competitors.

DEADLINE EXTENDED - PTA Family School Partnership Surveys for National PTA School of Excellance Program

Dear Families,

The deadline has been extended for our Family-School Partnership Surveys. If you have already taken them, thank you. If not, please take a few minutes of your day to add to our project. It should only take 5-10 minutes of your time and would be greatly appreciated!

The Discovery PTA knows that a strong partnership among our families, school leaders, and community is important for the success of our students and school. That’s why we are participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which celebrates partnerships between PTA and schools to enrich the educational experience for all students.

We need your help! As part of the process, National PTA requests feedback from families at the beginning and the end of the school year.. Your feedback now will help to generate a customized Roadmap to Excellence, which will provide specific recommendations for improving our family-school partnership and achieving excellence in our school.
