Principal's Update
Brent Elementary Weekly Newsletter
Week of April 27th
Last Monday, Governor DeWine announced that Ohio schools would continue with remote learning for the remainder of the school year. I have to admit that while I knew the announcement was coming, it certainly wasn't easy to hear. I felt sadness knowing that we wouldn't be back together as the same group of staff and students. But, despite this sadness, I am hopeful. We have worked together as a community to persevere and will continue to do so. While our future is uncertain, I know that we will continue to figure it out together.
As I mentioned, we will continue with remote learning and class meetings through the end of the scheduled school year (May 29th). The remote learning documents and materials will be updated by the end of the week. I will include links to them in next week's newsletter. Also, our school and district teams are working very hard to determine the best way that we can honor this school year and prepare for the next year. We are developing a plan that is the safest and most efficient for all. More information will be sent out soon about picking up student belongings.
This week, some of the elementary schools (Brent and Whitaker) staff members will be working at the food and Chromebook pickup on Tuesday (4/28) from 11 am to 1 pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
All the best,
Ms. Baker
Brent Elementary: Guided by One Goal
During this time of so many unknowns, we as a Brent Community have one goal: to create a structure for remote learning that cares for the social-emotional and learning needs of our students.
We are guided by the beliefs that:
simple is better
Maslow before Bloom
consistency is a priority
practicality helps keep all of us from becoming overwhelmed
WildcatSERVE Pantry
Finneytown's PTA WildcatSERVE pantry is a resource available to our families with urgent needs throughout this difficult time. It was recently a part of WLWT's CommUNITY Day of Giving. Check out the link here:
The WildcatSERVE pantry has non-perishable food items as well as toiletries, hygiene items, paper products, cleaning supplies, and school supplies. The pantry is separate from school meal pick up but is also open on Tuesdays from 11am-1pm. Donation items can be picked up or dropped off during the weekly scheduled time. It is located on Winton Road, near the corner of Fontainebleau. Precautions are taken to ensure everyone is safe. There is still an ongoing need of the following items:
- Cleaning supplies (disinfectant spray or wipes)
- Individually wrapped paper towels
- Hand sanitizer, hand soap, and dish soap
- Laundry detergent
- Gift cards (Kroger, Target, Visa)
If your family is in need or you would like to donate, please contact Nancy Rouse @ 314-635-0960. Thank you to everyone who has helped with WildcatSERVE!
Counselor's Corner
If your child is struggling at home in any way, I would be happy to talk with them. I can be reached at 314-635-0960 during normal school hours. You can call/text or email nrouse@finneytown.org. I am also happy to help solve any barriers that may be getting in the way of your child connecting with their teacher and classmates. I join each classroom on zoom video meetings once a week. I enjoy seeing and talking with them!
With the cancellation of World Culture Night last week, I thought families may enjoy videos and articles from past events. Please click the links below to check out more on this one of a kind event. Finneytown is a unique community and we look forward to celebrating our diversity next school year!
