William James
Background Information
William James was the first American psychologist. He originally went to Harvard to study in the medical fields, but then began to discover what is now known as psychology. He married Alice Gibbens and became a professor at Harvard. In 1890, William James published the first psychology text book.
William James
James was the 14th most eminent psychologist of the 20th century. His work was very influenced by evolution. One of his quotes is, "Consciousness helped us adapt to and function in our surroundings". He was born on January 11, 1842 and died August 26, 1910.
