Monday Memo

May 16, 2016

Hopefully I have fixed the issue with the "Monday Memo" and you have all received it.

Last week, I read two blog posts about the last months of school. "Until the Final Bell" from the #KidsDeserveIt blog is about the importance of making sure that we are taking advantage of every minute with have with our students. The other, "Why Wait? Start Tomorrow! The Power of Trying New Practices at the End of the Year", is about the benefits of trying out new ideas during the last months (even weeks) of school. This post by "The Sisters" states that trying new ideas at the end of the school year gives us time to practice without the distractions of the beginning of a new school year. Many of you are teaching new PLTW modules right now and learning along with your students! If you have read an article, book or tweet recently and thought "I like this idea. I'll save it for next year," instead of waiting, try it out now. Looking for some ideas to try out - don't forget the end of every Monday Memo contains links to new ideas. Let me know if you decide to try out something new and how it is going!

On Thursday, we will be welcoming staff from Avon Primary School to show off PLTW Launch. Thank you to Pauline for organizing this visit and to Shirley, Joe, Jill, Pam, Jennie and Pauline for opening their classrooms to the visitors.

Our K-12 STEM Education Program, which includes PLTW Launch, was recognized as an exemplary STEM program by the Finger Lakes STEM hub. Pauline, Jennifer Sinsebox and Dr. Leh attend the STEM Hub Recognition Awards Luncheon last Friday to accept this recognition!

Please make sure you have reviewed the updated STAR schedule that was sent out yesterday. Please be sure to note the times that the Computer Lab will not be available for recess (times are in email with schedule).

Enjoy these pictures from last week...
