The word "Bully" the total opposite of what it means now
5 hundred years ago, it meant friend, family member or sweetheart.
The root of the word comes from the Dutch boel, meaning lover or brother.
Verbal Bullying
- Name calling
- Teasing
- Insulting
Physical Bullying
- Hitting, kicking, or pushing someone
- Stealing, Hiding or ruining someone's things
- Making someone do something he or she doesn't want to.
Realationship Bullying
- Refusing to talk to someone
- Spreading lies and rumors about someone
- Making someone feel left out or rejected
Cyber Bullying
Cyber-bullies utilize the Internet for the following:
- Send insulting messages
- Spread rumors
- Post embarrassing photos
- Share someone’s secrets online
- Threaten the victim and make him or her live in fear
- Exclude their victim from an online group
Racial Bullying
- Racism is when someone is treated differently or unfairly just because of their race or culture
- written or verbal threats or insults
- damage to property, including graffiti
- personal attacks of any kind, including violence
Social Bullying
Social bullying is deliberate, repetitive and aggressive social behavior intended to hurt others. This type of behavior generally includes verbal abuse, gossip or other actions that cause mental and emotional harm and social isolation for the victim. Schools, sports activities, colleges, domestic and work situations and neighborhoods are some of the places in which this type of bullying occurs.
Kids who are bullied can feel like they are
- Different
- Powerless
- Alone
Why do bullies act that way?
Some bullies come from families where everyone is angry and shouting all the time. They may think that being angry, calling names, and pushing people around is a normal way to act. Some bullies are copying what they've seen someone else do. Some have been bullied themselves.
