Third Grade Nuts & Bolts

Week of February 8

Giant Traveling Map of the Pacific Ocean

If you would like to attend an event with the Giant Pacific Ocean Traveling map, RIGEA will be hosting an event, free to the public that will feature, use, and explore this map in great detail. This will be on March 31st (4-6pm) at Rhode Island College in the Student Union Ballroom. There will be some food, presentations, and a whole lot of map exploration…bring clean socks and a desire to explore with Ms Carley.

What happens in third grade when we have two snow days?

When we have snow days, Ms. Carley's lesson plan becomes a flexible tool.

Due to a shortened week, third grade will not complete a vocabulary unit until the week of February, 22. I selected one A-Z Reading for this week.

November 11 is National Inventor's Day

Third grade students researched and wrote a five sentence paragraph about one of the following inventions: potato chips, Jello, Play-doh, the trampoline, and Lego. Student writing is displayed on the hallway board. On Thursday, students are free to share their invention during language arts class.

Black History Month

Over the weekend, I acquired comprehension cards about various Black History topics. In addition to answering comprehension questions, students completed written summaries for two related topics.

Tongue Twisters

Did your child share Monday's Morning Meeting activity with you?

Can you read this faster than your third grader?

Betty Botter bought some butter
But she said this butter's bitter
If I put it in my batter
It will make my batter bitter,
But a bit of better butter
Will surely make my batter better.

So she bought a bit of butter
Better than her bitter butter
And she put it in her batter
And her batter was not bitter.
So t'was better Betty Botter
Bought a bit of better butter.

Geography

Wednesday is our final lesson on Ecuador's five themes of geography. Next Wednesday, we will explore Argentina's five themes of geography. There is no A-Z Reading preview for this country.

It's cold outside!

Please remember to send your child to school dressed to play in the snow. Hats, gloves, snow pants, and boots are required for your child to play in the snow during recess. Thank you.
