Please support us in helping our students attend live learning sessions and turning in completed assignments on due dates.

Red Ribbon Week
Do you know next week is Red Ribbon Week ?!!!
I hope all of you and your students will
wear a red t-shirt on Monday,
wear boots on Tuesday,
wear mixed up clothes on Wednesday,
wear Jersey on Thursday,
wear PJ's on Friday.
Red Ribbon Week is a week dedicated to making mindful choices about how we treat others, and how we treat ourselves. Our theme for this week is: Respect Yourself. Respect Others. Respect is thinking and acting in a way that shows others you care about their feelings and their well-being.
So, while all of us may be very different from one another, I think we all share one similarity: we want to be respected. However, to earn respect from others, you must show respect. What We want all students to think about next is how can students show respect for others…even when they may be different from us. I look forward to hearing more about what you all think! Teachers, be sure to you and your students ( or parents) post to social media with #SSTSUGARLAND next week.
We hope to get everyone’s post pictures and some words with #SSTSUHGARLAND to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter by the end of the next week!
Because at SST SUGAR LAND, we respect ourselves and we respect others!

#CreateForUNICEF
When: Virtually Now-Nov 1, 2020Where: Social Media
Live Event & Competition Awards: Nov 19th, 4.30pm
Generously supported by the Levant Foundation!
During these difficult times, #CreateForUNICEF offers a way for individuals to channel their energy positively by using creativity to produce something and dedicate it to young people in the world. We hope to flood social media with 'ARTivisms', a creative expression in which the artist attaches a message to inspire others to pursue their dreams, to spread positivity or to raise awareness of an issue. We recognize that creativity can manifest itself in many forms: fashion, painting, drawing, coloring, singing, dancing, writing and even cooking. We welcome all types of submissions from all skill levels, as long as they are accompanied by a positive message for young people in the world.
Ultimately, we plan to select some of these submissions to be presented in the HYOUston DiverCity Fest, an event to be held virtually on Nov 19th, 2020 at 4.30pm. The fest that celebrates the variety and diversity of talents present throughout the Houston community and especially Houston youth. At this year's virtual fest, selected creative expressions submitted on social media from world as part of the #CreateForUNICEF initiative will be featured and awarded.
Have you, your family or friends been creative during quarantine? If yes, share it to add to the collection of art for young people around the world. We all can bring joy with a simple message of gratitude, compassion and encouragement! UNICEF thanks you for being part of the wonderful community who is sending positive vibes to everyone! Please review SST-Sugar Land arrival and dismissal procedures
Students should not be dropped of unattended before 7:30 AM. They should be waiting in their cars or outside on the porch with an adult present. This policy is for the safety of all students and staff. Please do not park in the staff parking lot and escort your student across the lane of traffic, this poses a danger to those driving as well as crossing on foot. Please park in the lot closest to the side entrance and escort your student to the covered porch. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep all students safe!

NOTES FROM OUR NURSE
MOST IMPORTANTLY
***1. No students can be on campus with any symptoms. The only way for them to be on campus with symptoms is if they get a doctor's note explaining an alternative reason as to why they have these symptoms. Students can develop symptoms overnight even after getting tested. Therefore no students can be showing symptoms if they are on-site learning.
2. Neck gaiters cannot be worn instead of face masks, only with the face mask if they want to.
Annual Health Screenings 2020-2021
NOTICE OF HEALTH SCREENINGS & UPDATES
Hello parents!
It is once again time for our annual health screenings. I put this together to hopefully answer any questions that you may have regarding the procedure and state requirements.
First, who gets screened? The state requires that we screen the following students:
SPINAL SCREENINGS (fall semester)
Girls are screened twice, once at age 10 (5th grade) and again at age 12 (7th grade)
Boys are screened once at the age of 13 or 14 (8th grade)
HEARING SCREENING & VISION SCREENING
Prekindergarten, Kindergarten and all NEW students must be screened within 120 days of admission.
1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grade students must be screened by May of each school year.
Are there exemptions? YES
In lieu of the screening(s) provided by the school:- parents or guardians may provide screening record signed by a licensed professional
- parents or guardians may provide signed statement that the vision, hearing or spinal screening conflicts with the tenets and practices of a church or religious denomination of which the affiant is an adherent or member
I have put the affidavits and the religious exemption in the parent portal under "Nurse Information".
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12WHSExMXrC26jQ3EQc9bGbxpLYjgPluT?usp=sharingSafety Protocols:
All equipment is sanitized between each use.
All students will be social distanced throughout the screening process.
Requirements:
For vision screenings it is very important that your student wear glasses or contacts if they are prescribed. This screening is to catch students who need glasses or need a change of prescription. Vision problems can be treated if they are detected early. Early signs of serious health problems can also be detected during your eye exam. These can include high blood pressure as well as the risk of stroke and diabetes.
For hearing screenings please let me know if your student uses any auditory assistive devices, such as a hearing aid.
*** STUDENTS WHO ARE DISTANCE LEARNING ***
If your student is not onsite they still need to be screened, or excused from screening. Please do one of the following:
- Schedule a time to bring them to campus and I will conduct the screenings all together. (This should not take longer than 10 minutes)
- Turn in documentation from a licensed professional that the individual is actively under medical care for one or more spinal problems.
- Turn in documentation that the screening was performed by a qualified individual at the appropriate ag
- Turn in an acceptable affidavit stating one of the following:
a) The screening will be conducted by a qualified individual outside the school. The parent or guardian must then provide proof the screening has occurred within 60 days of the signed affidavit.
b) The screening conflicts with religious tenets.
Due date for screenings: 12/11/2020
My email address is vstremmel@ssttx.org to schedule or turn in documentation.

Transfer of Student from Online to On-Site Learning
Dear Parents/Guardians:
SST wants to provide flexibility for parents and students to transfer from online to on-site learning. The process is now in place for the transfer. Only those parents who wish to make the transfer from online to onsite
learning need to take action by following this process:
SST Transfer of Student from Online to On-Site Learning
1. Parents who want to transfer their students from online to in-person
education must submit a request to the campus through Skyward during
the first two weeks of the month. Parents login to Skyward Family Access
and click on Student Transfer.
2. Please note that this is only for the parents who want to make a change
from online to onsite.
3. The student will then begin attending on-site learning on the first Monday
of the following month.
4. For example, parents can request for their child to be transferred to the in-
person education between October 1 and October 15. The first day of in-
person education will then be the first Monday of November (November 2).
The exceptions are Tuesday, January 5 and April 6. All dates are provided
below.
5. After the deadline to submit transfer requests has passed, parents may
contact the school administration to determine if there is any availability
based on the class size. If there is no availability, parents need to wait for
the next on-site education window.
6. TEMPORARY TRANSFER from onsite to online learning: At any time,
parents can transfer students from on-site to online learning for short
periods of time. The transfer can be for a single day and up to two weeks.
Parents are required to notify the dean of academics (For PK thru 2nd:Ms. Davis :cdavis@ssttx.org. For 3rd thru 8th: Ms. Ahmad:gahmad@ssttx.org) by sending an email with a copy to the child’s homeroom teacher. The request must be in writing through an email for documentation. The child then can return to onsite
learning without any additional action.
7. LONG TERM TRANSFER from onsite to online learning: If parents wish to
transfer a child from on-site to online learning for more than two weeks,
they will follow the same directions as outlined above. This can occur at
any time. The request must be in writing through an email for
documentation. If the parent then decides to request a return to on-site
learning from online, they must request the transfer through Skyward as
outlined above.
*Parents with multiple SST students need to complete the process for each
individual child.
