PRHS SROs
Your School Resource Officers (SROs) for Peachtree Ridge High School are Officer Brian Bergman. I prefer to be called Officer B by our students. The mission of our School Resource Officers is to help educate students and parents about safety issues as well as protecting them and preventing inappropriate behavior on school campuses. SROs engage in three types of activities: Law Enforcement, Counseling/Mentoring, and Law-related Education.
Law Enforcement - Schools continue to reflect the broader community. The presence of officers on campus enhances the perception of safety by students, staff, and the community. The alleviation of disruption, crime, and violence in the schools, through proactive and preventive interventions, enhances the safe and productive learning environment for our students.
Counseling/Mentoring - School resource officers develop and improve relationships with students through mentoring and counseling. This interaction provides a different insight for students into the role of law enforcement in the community. By providing positive role models, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their community as well as promoting and enhancing acceptable social behaviors.
Law-Related Education - Through interaction in the classroom, school resource officers provide guidance and expertise on many topics. In addition, they are available to provide training and education to teachers, staff, parents, and community organizations. Gwinnett SROs are highly qualified professionals who all have at least 5 years’ experience in law enforcement and hold postsecondary degrees. In fact, among Gwinnett's school resource officers, 35 percent also hold master's degrees.
Gwinnett County School Police Explorers Program – Allows young men and women an opportunity to better understand the role of law enforcement today. The Explorer post also provides members with training and experience in leadership, teamwork, and positive self-confidence. Meetings are held every other Tuesday, from 6pm to 9pm, at the Gwinnet County School Police Headquarters at 1229 Northbrook Parkway.
Get acquainted with your student's school resource officers, an important partner to Gwinnett's safe and orderly schools. We maintain an open-door policy, encouraging students to stop in to meet us and bring items of concern to our attention. We also patrol our campus to deter criminal activity and identify physical security concerns. And we respond to calls for service from both students and staff.
Please contact your SROs with any questions or concerns. You can contact Officer B at brian.bergman@gcpsk12.org. You can also contact our main office 24/7 by dialing 770-513-6715. We look forward to working with you in making our school a safe and productive learning environment for our children.

Word of the Month: Malware
What is malware?
Malware, short for malicious software, is a software program that is installed on a victim's computer or mobile device without his or her knowledge or consent. Malware is a catch-all term covering several types of computer security threats such as spyware, ransomware, adware, and scareware.
Once installed, malware can be used to spy on the victim's online activities, steal passwords and files, or use the computer system to attack others. Malware can even be used to deny an individual or organization access to their data, demanding that a ransom be paid to regain control.
Malware programs seldom can be uninstalled by conventional means. They are hidden in unexpected places on the victim's computer, making removal complicated and time-consuming. In some cases, the computer's operating system must be reinstalled to get rid of the infection completely.
