Asiatic Lion
Endangered
Asiatic Lion
The Asiatic Lion is native to India. The lion, sometimes referred to as the Indian Lion is endangered due to its specific living requirements. The Asiatic Lion is only found in the Gir Forest of India. The Asiatic Lion once ranged from the Mediterranean to the middle of India, but excessive hunting, water pollution, and decline in natural prey severly limited their habitat.
Asiatic Cubs

Asiatic Aloofs
Asiatic lions are only seen in the Gir Forest in India.
Food Scarcity
Asatic lions prey specifically on deer, water buffalo, antelopes and gazelles. Three out of the four of these sources of food were seriously disrupted with the commercial destruction of land in the Mediterannean, resulting in the decline of the Asiatic Lions.
Attempts to Save the Asiatics
Mixed breeding of Asiatic lions and African lions has proven to be an unsuccesful attempt at stabilizing the continuity of the traits of the Asiatic species. Hybrid lions have been unable to sruvinve in the African wilderness, due to the smaller size and lighter weight of Asiatic lions. Still, the breeding was an attempt to at least partially save this endangered species.
