Cardinal Connection
December 11, 2020
Winter Break: December 21- January 1
Friday December 18th is a minimum day for all Lakeport Schools
School gets out at 12:30!
Semester Two begins January 4, 2021
Stage 2: Hybrid Model Update
Hello Cardinal Families,
I hope this message finds you and yours doing well and ready for Winter Break! As you are aware, Lake County is now in the "Purple Tier" meaning we have greater restrictions in place. Due to these restrictions and the safety of students and staff, Lakeport Unified School District no longer plans to open for Hybrid learning as previously scheduled for January 4th. Instead, we will continue to distance learn until it is determined that our school sites are prepared and it is safe to bring people together again on campus. Students that have already been on campus since the start of the school year may continue in-person learning. Please refer to the schedule your CLHS student's teacher shares with you. We will share the assigned Hybrid A and B groups with students as we get closer to opening for hybrid. Thank you for your patience on this matter.
Although we will not be moving to hybrid learning after Winter Break, we will be starting our new bell schedule upon our return. We feel it is important to make these changes at semester to allow our families time to prepare. In addition, we have taken into consideration the feedback students and families have shared with us over the course of the first semester and are reducing the amount of screen time for our students thus allowing for more time in the day to complete homework and asynchronous assignments. Due to the reduction of instructional minutes in each class, it is very important that students log into their classes on time. Teachers will be available in the afternoons to provide additional support for students and answer any questions. Wednesdays will continue to be mostly asynchronous days, with the exception that students need to attend their Cardinal Advisory Period. Teachers will have office hours on Wednesdays 9:35 - 10:35.
We want to thank you all for your hard work and perseverance during this very challenging time. We recognize that the last nine months have been harder than usual, scary at times, and full of uncertainty. We want you to know that we are here to support your CLHS student as much as possible, so please don't hesitate to give us a call or email. We also want you to know that we appreciate your patience and support has we navigate through these uncharted waters. Thank you.
Lastly, next week is Finals Week. Our schedule will remain the same, with the exception of a minimum day on Friday. Teachers are conducting finals all week in their classes in a variety of ways. Also, many teachers are accepting late work. Students should reach out to their teachers to find out how they can improve their semester grade before the deadline.
We hope everyone has a happy, safe, and healthy holiday!
Mrs. Scheel
A December to Remember
Coming Up Next...
Wow, can you believe it is the end of the first semester! As we enter the second semester, I would like to commend our families for adjusting and doing a great job in distance learning throughout the first semester. In the second semester, we will be adding some activities and attendance incentives; I would like to share a few attendance and activity notes with you.
Student Activities:
When we return in January, we will begin hosting student club meetings. Next week Leadership will host a virtual club rush; during this time, students will be able to explore and sign up for clubs that may be of interest to them. Clubs are a great way to be involved with the school and outside community activities. We hope everyone finds something that they will want to participate in. A “December to Remember” was a hit. Thank you to all who participated! A friendly reminder to follow leadership’s Instagram page @clhsleaders to catch a glimpse of our Cardinal Family.
Yearbooks are on sale! Order early for a discounted price of $70.00. Order your book today; the yearbook students are working to capture the year's history and uniqueness. Yearbooks are available at https://www.jostens.com/yearbooks/students-and-parents/about-yearbooks.
Please call Mrs. Frazell or Mrs. Roderick if you have any questions.
Attendance:
Although we are learning at home, please remember the students must attend their daily zoom lessons. It is a chance to connect with other students and their teachers for a collaborative learning experience. If your child experiences difficulties, please have them contact their teachers or school counselor. If you have any attendance questions, please contact Mrs. Roderick or Ms. Frediani to assist you. We continue to encourage your child to participate fully by being on time, focused, and ready to attend fully engaged with the course, class, and teacher. In the second semester, we will have attendance based class competitions and individual incentives. Stay tuned for more information.
We look forward to continuing to develop our educational partnership to help all CLHS students succeed.
Happy Holidays,
Mrs. Roderick
