Anthem School Updates
August 14, 2019
Early Release information
Education is a field that continues to change rapidly, and we are dedicated to ensuring that our staff are able to fulfill their commitment of meeting the challenges of today's educational environment. Supporting this commitment includes providing the time for staff to work in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) each week, at a regularly scheduled time, to collect, review and utilize student data to more effectively serve our students' academic and behavioral needs.
We have a team of teacher leaders that have attended extensive training on PLCs. On August 16, Anthem Staff will meet in collaborative teams to continue the work of 'unwrapping the standards.' Teacher leaders, along with administration, will guide staff through a rigorous protocol that includes identifying the learner progressions and mastery expectations for essential standards.

6th grade leadership ambassadors
Google’s “Project Oxygen,” Ten Key Skills:
1. Is a good coach - Ambassadors encourage and coach students to stay engaged in their work.
2. Empowers the team and does not micromanage - Ambassadors guide younger students to the answer; they do not provide the answer.
3. Creates an inclusive team environment, showing concern for success and well-being -Ambassadors approach the “first” student, not a “preferred” student and guide them to success.
4. Is productive and results-oriented - Ambassadors have two goals: Dial Down Off-Topic Discussion, Dial-Up On-Topic Engagement, and Learning.
5. Is a good communicator – listens and shares information - Ambassadors practice their verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
6. Supports career development and discusses performance - Ambassadors put a focus on school performance by modeling engagement. Ambassadors encourage self-reflection and continual improvement by using “Keeps and Starts.”
7. Has a clear vision/strategy for the team - Ambassadors understand their mission to help teachers and empower students.
8. Has key technical skills to help advise the team - Ambassadors are trained to apply their E.Q. and I.Q. skills as they work with younger students in the classrooms.
9. Collaborates - Ambassadors work with teachers, students, and other Ambassadors and learn to “Read the Room.”
10. Strong decision-maker - Ambassadors become strong decision-makers because they learn by doing.
Initially students will attend leadership classes with Ms. Evans for training. Later, the Ambassadors will work in other classrooms for 20 minutes once a week, working with younger students in classrooms. E.Q. Ambassadors enjoy this opportunity to serve the school, expand their comfort zone, and develop leadership skills. The Ambassadors form positive relationships with the younger students at school and become important student mentors on campus.
We are excited to be bringing the Ambassador program to Anthem and look forward to you experiencing the positive benefits all around campus!
Best,
Deb Roets & Danna Evans
