MD Guidance & Counseling - October 2017
12th Grade Monarchs
It was wonderful to meet with you all through your English classes last month to go over college applications. Try your best to keep organized with your upcoming application deadlines and the different documents that need to be submitted. Your counselors are here to help if you have any questions!
If you qualified for CSF, sign-ups will be on October 24th - 26th.

Common Application / Parchment Transcripts
Instructions: Log in to your Parchment account. If Mater Dei High School is added, you will see a square or an image of your transcript, and you can click on “Order”. Search for “Common App” as your recipient and enter your Common App ID (found in the top right hand corner in your Common App account). Review your order and complete it by paying for your transcript. Please do not send your transcript to individual schools on your Common Application; send directly to “Common App”. You do not need to a send transcript for your UC/Cal State applications unless the school requests it of you. If you have any questions, please contact your counselor.
If you have completed enrichment courses outside of MDHS, you should request that an
official transcript from that school/program be sent to the private colleges you apply to,
and any other school that asks for a transcript as part of the application process. (For
UC’s and Cal States, you should request that the transcript for your enrichment class be
sent at the end of the year, when your final MDHS transcript should be sent.)
Letters of Recommendation
If you need letters of recommendations from your counselor and teacher, be sure to ask
them first, in person, at least three weeks before your first application due date.
SAT / ACT
Please check out our helpful SAT & ACT Test Prep Page, which includes tips for prep, official test dates and links!
For college applications, please remember that you must send official SAT/ACT scores to colleges in addition to self-reporting your scores. You can send your official scores by going to collegeboard.org (SAT) and act.org (ACT). Please note that if you are applying to UC campuses, you will need to send scores to just one UC school. All UC campuses you apply to will receive your scores if you send to one campus. You can also send scores to just one Cal State University, and they will also be shared with all campuses you apply to. This can help you save on the costs of sending scores.

CSF Sign-Ups
A CSF Meeting will be held Wednesday December 6, 2017 at 7:30AM in the LeVecke Center. All CSF Members must attend!
Please Note: If a student has been in CSF for four semesters (they do not have to
be consecutive), and one of the semesters is for grades earned during the first
semester of the senior year, they qualify as a “Sealbearer.” Sealbearers will be given a gold cord at the “CSF” Senior Awards Ceremony in April. This cord will be worn with their graduation gown at the MDHS graduation ceremony, and they will also be recognized in the graduation program. They will also receive a gold seal on their diplomas.
College Admission Reps
Be sure to meet with the visiting College Admission Representatives during lunch in
Shamrock Plaza. Check Naviance for a list of colleges and visit dates or come by the counseling office to see the College Visits of the Week on our whiteboard. Click here for a list of Questions to ask College Admission Representatives.
Student Athletes
Student athletes who plan to play their sport at the Division I or II level must register
with the NCAA Eligibility Center, www.eligibilitycenter.org. For NAIA programs, you
must Register with the NAIA Eligibility, www.playnaia.org. Once you register with
NCAA/NAIA, request to have your transcript sent through www.parchment.com.
Office Hours
The Guidance Office is a quiet space for peer tutoring this year. It is also a time you can meet with your counselor.
Get Involved
High school is a great time to explore your interests, discover your talents, build your skills, and learn to lead! Colleges are looking for well-rounded individuals who demonstrate involvement & leadership.
Join clubs or an athletic program, or participate in one of MD's volunteer opportunities. Click here for all our clubs. We have Social, Humanitarian/Awareness, Educational, Sports, and Honors Clubs as well as Academic Teams.
Excel in Classes
* Regularly check Blackboard and Aeries
* Build a habit of turning things in on time and complete, check your grades to see your progress
* Visit your teachers during Office Hour--Ask a question if there is anything you need! (Our teachers are awesome but they still haven't mastered reading your minds...)
* Try the Academic Assistance Program (AAP), free after school tutoring
Serve the Community
As a reminder, your next 10 hours of Christian Service must be completed and turned into Mrs. Hopkins, in the Campus Ministry office, by Monday November 27, 2017. Here is a link to our Christian Service Program webpage, which includes FAQs and upcoming opportunities.
If you love to serve, Mater Dei honors students who complete 400+ hours by their senior year with a Christian Service Program Cord.
