Science: Ramps, Roller Coasters & Twirly Birds
by London, Audrey, and Nate
This week in science, we are learning about force, motion, gravity and friction, so we made something called twirly birds. They are technically just paper that looks like a helicopter leaf. You throw them up in the air and they twirl just like a helicopter leaf. They were so cool! Also we made adjustments to new twirly birds. We ether cut off 2 cm. of the wings or put 2 paper clips on their bottoms. We wanted to see which would fall faster and work against gravity, the first one or the adjusted one.
Also we made cups and ramps. We tried different ways to park the cup under the ramp. We tried to tape pennies to the cup and to make it go left or right and park it under the ramp. This was also for motion, to see how things change when you apply different materials to it.
Finally, we used a website to create roller coasters. We wanted to see how momentum changed when we started from high versus low spots.
Science was so much fun and we had a great experience!

Reading
By Marissa, Alex, and Veronica
This week, Reading was filled with fun things!
For example, we went into groups and researched animals like frogs, sharks, pandas, snakes, and penguins. Each group researched one animal and really dug deep and found a bunch of interesting facts on their topic. Soon we categorized the facts into topics like body, habitat, growing up, food, and lingo (aka expert words on our topic.)
Then after all that, we put each group member in charge of a subtopic. That person is in charge of putting together all the info they gathered on that subtopic, and will put it in a google slide today!! And when everyone is done, we will all present our topic to the class.
As you can see, we learned a lot about our topics, but we’re not done just yet, but in the process! Reading was a lot of fun this week!!
