It's Going to be a GREAT YEAR at Hoover!
A Note from the Principal
I am so excited to be starting another year at Hoover. For those of you who are not familiar, my name is Marci Galinowski and this will be my 4th year as the Hoover School Principal and 14th year with Crawfordsville Community Schools. I have been working as an educator since 2001. In addition to serving in administration, I have been a classroom teacher, Media Specialist, and Grant Coordinator.
I look forward to getting to know your students and working with all of our Hoover families this school year. If at any time, you have questions or I may be of service to you, please contact me at: mgalinowski@cville.k12.in.us or 362-2691 x4201.
Looking forward to seeing you all very soon!
Marci Galinowski, Principal
Meet the Teacher Night
Students and families are welcome to visit Hoover on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 PM to meet their student's teachers and drop off supplies before the first day of school. Mrs. Galinowski, Hoover Principal, will be presenting general helpful school information in the gym about every 30 minutes throughout the evening.
The First Day of School
The first day of school will be on Wednesday, August 7, 2019. Bus drivers will be making phone calls over the next three days with your student's pick-up and drop-off times. Please be patient and allow for up to 10 minutes before or after your child's scheduled time at the bus stop. On the first few days of school, it can take longer for the bus to arrive as we have many new students learning the process and figuring out which bus to get on, etc...
- Doors open at 7:30, car riders and walkers should enter through Door 12 on Elm St. by the cafeteria. Bus riders will enter through bus lane door 11.
- The tardy bell rings at 8:05. Students who arrive to school after 8:05 must enter through door 1 by the office to receive a pass to class. Students who arrive after 8:05 will be counted as tardy.
- Dismissal is at 2:35. Car riders and walkers will exit through Door 1 by the office.
Breakfast, Lunch, and Recess!
Breakfast is FREE for all students at Hoover. New to Hoover this year, breakfast will be served in the classroom every day, except on Tuesdays when a traditional hot breakfast will be served in the cafeteria. Door 12 will open at 7:30 for car riders and walkers. Students will report for breakfast in the classroom at 7:45. On Tuesdays, breakfast in the cafeteria will start earlier at 7:30.
Lunch & Recess
This year all classes will have recess before lunch. After recess, students will head to the cafeteria for a 30-minute lunch break. Parents who wish to have lunch with their student must call the office a minimum of 24 hours prior to the visit to reserve the conference room. Parents coming into the building for lunch must also have a completed background check on file. No outside restaurant food is permitted per the CCSC Board Nutrition Policy. Adult guests may purchase a school lunch from the cafeteria and take it back to the conference room to eat with their student.
Background checks are only valid for one school year and must be completed at the start of each school year at: https://secure.safevisitorsolutions.com/Safe/Volunteer/chs1178
2019 - 5th Grade Camping Trip Information - Sept. 4-6, 2019
All Hoover 5th grade students are expected to attend the 5th Grade Camping trip at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Indiana. The dates for the trip are Sept. 4, 5, and 6. Many parent chaperones are needed to make this a successful trip. Please let the Hoover School Office know by August 16 if you are interested in being a chaperone. If more parents are interested than space available, we will select chaperones by lottery. Chaperones must be able to attend all three days. A parent information meeting will be scheduled prior to the camping trip. Crawfordsville Schools has been proud to continue to provide this outdoor education experience for all of our 5th grade students for over 40 years!
Information for Car Riders and Walkers
Drop-off
Car riders and walkers can be dropped off as early as 7:30 AM at Door 12 facing Elm St. For everyone's safety - Do NOT drop off students along the bus lane behind the school in the south parking lot. Cars should pull up to the school along the sidewalk facing south along Elm St. You may release your car rider anywhere along the sidewalk to walk to Door 12 by the cafeteria. Once your car rider is a safe distance from the car, please proceed to South St. by the PT Building and turn left or right to continue on your morning route. For everyone's safety please do not make a U-turn on Elm St. or drive through the South Parking lot where bus riders are being released from buses. Students who arrive after 8:05 must enter through the school office at Door 1 and receive a tardy pass to class. Door 12 will be locked promptly at 8:05.
Pick-up
Dismissal begins at 2:30. Car riders and walkers will be released from classes out Door 1 by the office. Drivers may park in the marked parking spaces in front of Hoover School to wait for their car riders to come outside. Please do NOT PARK in any of the handicap accessible spaces or unmarked bus lane space in front of Door 12. We have several buses and parents who transport several students with exceptional needs who need to use those spaces daily and would appreciate your consideration.
Notes from the Nurse
Remember that students may not transport medications to or from school. All medications must be brought to school with the appropriate paperwork sign by a parent and/or physician directly to the nurse.
